Still without a zoom lens and a decent camera (insurance company are still arguing with it), so had to use my 105mm for these. Glad the cars were nice and close :)
err this has nothing to do with motorsport!

Great shots! I did have an idea of doing one of the new Wembley tours. Wasn't thinking of doing it in a car!
I guess Gary has media accreditation for the Race of Champions...
'decent camera' grumble grumble - 30D. I think its decent :p

Awesome set, that Audi Quattro Sport is an awesome car.
Word of warning to anyone going to watch the Race of Champions, no spectators are permitted to take thier SLR camera into the arena for the races.:(

yeah i heard that rumour today too. god knows how they are going to police that one. I guess the bigger your lens/camera the more likely you are going to get it taken away.

They've just had an item on BBC London TV about the car racing at Wembley.

Your secret is safe with millions of people! They showed the female tv reporter being taken around the circuit in one of the cars. The reporter and driver had seat belts on but not crash helmets. I thought they wore them in racing cars?

Great until you hit your head on the roll cage and it cracks your head open I suppose...

Would that be just SLR's or any form of camera, i.e compacts and Compact SLR lookalikes?

Taken from a post on the british rally forum:
For anyone that is either attending the Race Of Champions event, or plans on attending the event at Wembley in two weeks time. Please be aware that following a conversation with customer services at Wembley, I have been told that professional type cameras (ie, SLR type with removable lenses) will not be permitted into the stadium for the Race of Champions event.
I mentioned that the majority of motorsport enthusiasts that turn up on the day will probably have an SLR camera with them, but they will be told that they can’t come into the stadium with them. I then asked if they have any storage lockers for people to leave them in that do turn up with them not knowing and they said that they don’t.
Since Wembley has no public parking, then people won’t have cars nearby to return them to, so I asked what they will do if say 20’000 people turn up with cameras and they said they won’t be allowed in with them.
I mentioned that is 33 years of attending motorsports events, I have never not been allowed to take my camera into an event.
To me it makes the difference of spending £50 -60 for a day out if I can’t take any pictures. So I told them that I would stay at home and watch it for free on Eurosport instead and not buy tickets now, and save myself a 10 hour drive, but they didn’t sound bothered.
I have also e mailed the ROC organisers to raise this issue with them and I am waiting for a reply.
Perhaps if enough people feel strongly enough about not having the freedom to take a few pictures of the action with their SLR type cameras, and e mail both Wembley and the organisers IMG (link at bottom of ROC website) , perhaps they may have a change of mind for the event.
Excellent pictures loving the last one of the Astra.
Complete joke about not being able to take a SLR in for the event, I was going to go to this but I am glad I am not now.

heres the list of prohibited items for wembley
http://www.wembleystadium.com/events/ProhibitedItems/
says no pro cameras. so i reckon an slr thats not a 1d and doesnt have a white lens on it ought to be OK. But dont hold me to that :)
Yep, you're right, crap camera, crap pictures.....
WHO are you trying to kid? Brilliant as always, ya git!

Excellent pics Gary!
Like others, I was planning to go to this to get some more SLR practice in, but having read the above, I'm not going to bother. What utter nonsense! I'll stick with the free Eurosport option instead.
I can picture it now, 15m quids worth of equipment piled up at Wembley's gates being photographed by someone with a Kodak disposable :D

i have a feeling (i might be wrong) that its on sky sports this year. On the press stuff there is a sky sports logo at the bottom. My guess is it'll be live on SS and European Eurosport, but not on British Eurosport. Dont sue me though :)
oh just noticed this, looks like someone has got some very special tickets there, very jealous id love to this, but i think i'll give it miss if we cant take our cameras too!
love the Audi.

I had heard elsewhere about the Wembley rules about cameras... which is why, coupled with a stupid ticket price, I won't be going.
I would argue though that my 30D isn't professional it is "prosumer", I think Canon would agree!
Starting at £35 it's not that expensive, and I'm suprised that you still wouldn't want to go to see such an event just because you can't take your camera. My tickets arrived this morning and I can't wait. Will everyone be physically searched as they enter wembley, as I plan to wear my camera around my neck under my coat.
I've nearly gone blind reading the back of the ticket, the print is that small but it does say you can take small cameras, so I'll be taking mine for sure.

Thats quite expensive to see cars like ants in the distance...

Quite possibly they will search you if they are that worried about potential exploitation of their copyright... if they don't get you on the gate, their stewards inside will get you if they see you using it. Remember these guys will be the ones used to football matches and as such will be well briefed in prohibited items where such things can literally be life and death...

Just as well my cameras are compacts and not SLR's then. The cars won't be that far away it's inside a stadium, plus which their will be the atmosphere too. People pay far more for a football match.

They do but that has always baffled me as well
This is Wembley's latest position with regard Cameras.
This was received as an answer to an email questioning cameras.
Our Ground Regulations currently prohibit the use of 'Professional cameras & recording devises'. Under this regulation and for all other Events, we only permit small, automatic, digital cameras inside the Stadium.
Please note that for this event we will be slightly relaxing this Ground Regulation. However we will not permit any sort of camera stand/tripod and/or excessive amounts of Photographic Equipment due to space limitations and Safety measures within the seating areas.
However please also note that our Turnstile Staff retain the right to refuse entry to any prohibited items.
We permit plastic bottles into the Stadium but the lid will be removed by our Turnstile Staff as part of our standard procedure as a security measure.
You may bring food in disposable containers and small rucksacks are also permitted.

Sounds daft doesn't it. If you're going to use a bottle as a missile, you're not going to worry if it's got a lid on. You can just hope to soak a few people on the way I guess.

i just think they have underestimated what a bunch of boring ******s us motorsport fans are :)
it'll be amazing if anyone even raises their voices let alone throw bottles.
hmm i think i might have just become a target for bottles :)

I don't know, I've been known to get a bit excited from time to time. My youngest son also does a mean impression of an air horn too.

If you have the lid off the bottle wont go as far as when it has the lid on. it will also compress on impact rather than keep its shape and hurt more. :D
They will stop you taking in loose change to stadiums soon too i bet! :cuckoo:

Also for a company the size of Wembley, you'd think they would be able to spell correctly on the website.
'Professional cameras & recording devises'
Plonkers !!

That would be down to who ever replied to my mates email.
My mate ordered and paid for two £35.00 tickets. The booking agency has very kindly sent him a pair of £55.00 tickets. Some people have all the luck, that would have saved me £80.00 :'(

Wiltshire towns are copyrighted too?? (ok, so i used some poetic license in that rather poor joke)
I would say that most cameras are professional. Their only job is to be a camera... Camera phones excepted of course!
