Jimmy are these also taken with the 50 ?
Do you shoot RAW or JPEG ?
Did you have to do much pping to them ?

Sorry for the questions but as I don't live to far away and have that lens I thought I might go next weekend. If I could come away with just one that compares with these sets I would be over the moon.

Yeah richmond all taken with the Nifty Fifty, shot in RAW and Large JPEG, but all of these are processed from the RAW, last three are tonemapped in photomatix with 3tiffs from 1 RAW. The top ones are merged myself from 3 tiffs from 1 RAW.

Word of warning if you are planning on going, there is a park and ride from outside the village that costs about £5, but if you are sneaky you can sometimes park closer, but if you dont know the village park and ride is probably easiest :) The torch light procession starts at about 4ish before that there is just general bits happening like the Punch and Judy and people in old fashioned dress doing various things. I wouldnt try and make a whole day out of it though, there isnt that much :p I was there about 2 and a half hours.

Thanks for the info. Jimmy.

If the weather is kinder than todays I think I'll make the trip.

The long range forecast on BBC weather suggests heavy rain for Saturday :( There are pubs etc you can shelter in, but you will get poked in the eyes a million times by old ladies with umbrellas if you venture outside :p

A very good guide on tone mapping using Photomatix here - http://www.vanilladays.com/hdr-guide/

The ones I did myself was just playing about with layers in photoshop, has three layers: Original Shot underexposed by 1 stop at the bottom (back) then the original shot, then the overexposed version on top. I then would just erase anything that looked too bright from the top (overexposed) layer which would would reveal the original exposure, then the same process on the original layer, if anything was still to bright, rub it out and it reveals the underexposed version underneath :) So for example 3 and 4 are showing the sky from the underexposed version, the buildings and lights are the original shot where as some of the shadows on the faces etc are the overexposed version, then flatten the image and play about with sharpening and noise reduction etc. Not tried it before really, but it seemed to work ok.
