View Full Version : Modelling shot
Another from one of my recent shoots - sidelit using vertical strip lighting (wonderful for white balance ) You can see the bars in her eyes but I really like the effect.
Honest C&C about the photography is welcomed & appreciated

Cheers for looking
The skin's a bit orange Mike as you know. Apart from that I can't get past what looks like a smudge on her lower left cheek and chin which I know you're more than capable of sorting out, but as you say it's a modelling shot.
Damnably pretty! :)
Cheers CT, she asked for a slightly warmer looking portrait in this instance, all of the other portraits have much "cooler" tones.
Took me a while to figure out what you meant about the smudge but I see what you mean now, think I've looked at the image so much I stopped looking for things like that - cheers for the feedback

Certainly warmer than her previous portrait, I like her expression. I find the reflection in her left eye rather distracting and the lighting is not to flattering on her left cheek. Anyhow I'm no expert in portraits so I could be totally off base.

Sorry, I'm not very good when it comes to technical ;) but her left eye looks a bit strange, I think it's because of the catchlights in the dark eye - would it maybe look better if they were toned down a bit
Lovely pose and model and lighting (apart from eye ;) jmo)
Mike I ran the shot through a Virtual Photographer filter called 'Romance' The filter was on the 'Soft' setting amd it always adds a little noise - this was on the lowest setting 25 ASA, but I really like it - I bet she would too with a bit of PS on that cheek first.

I think LP has a point - there's an odd secondary catchlight in her left eye which it would be easy to get rid of.
Edit and zerosight - I never noticed it.
I do really like that CT - it does unfortunately look a bit out of place when put together with my other shots of her I may have to process a few of the others in a similar way but I'll run it past her & see what she thinks - I do think that it'd probably help her having a different variety of shots in her portfolio to my usual stuff :)
Thankss to Zeroeseight & Donna for the feedback too, very much appreciated
I quite like it. Comments about oranginess and dark left eye already made.
The one thing I find odd is the purple background splodge. I think Id've liked to have a monotone backdrop, probably the purple in this case as her hair gets lost in darkness.
LOL I've been sitting here playing with your pic and different effects. :D
Anyone who doesn't have Virtual Photographer can get it for free from HERE (http://www.optikvervelabs.com/download.asp)
It works as a plugin with Paint Shop Pro and Photoshop - probably other packages too as long as it's installed in the plugins folder.
 CT, I have edited the cheek & will take a look at some soft focus ideas now. cheers again.
Cheers for the feedback too Paul

Much better.
Yep loads better Mike and a good job on that eye too. I might just go for a more gradual blend from the chin around that stud into the shadow area?http://www.talkphotography.co.uk/gallery/data/1269/mmoomike2.jpg

Yep - loads better  and thanks CT for the link :)
Very nicely executed CT - think that both image edits definitely work well - input is very much appreciated as I should have another studio shoot coming up before Christmas (aside from the TP meeting one) & I'd like to get it right first time
Edit: Thanks again Donna & Zeroeseight
I thought she might be your gf Mike. Never mind though!
 Nope, I'll see if I can persuade my gf to let me take some shots of her & get them posted up here asap CT ;)
 LOL Sounds like she's a stunner anyway. ;)

Looks great but I am put of by the purple background on the right.
Cheers for the feedback Mark - I have tried without the purple in the background but the image looks far too dark without it unfortunately.
I prefer the latter one to Mike ( for the reasons already stated)
Cheers for the feedback mate
Absolutely gorgeous girl, she really does have such compelling eyes!
Some really lovely edits of the shot here too.
Hope you'll share more as you process them.
Thanks Glo, is great to see different takes on the image & it's definitely improved the image for the better (Cheers again everyone for your input )
Definatley like your last edit Mike, I aint no expert, but I might have held a reflector on her left (our right) up near her face, just to lift the dark area around her left eye, not too much as a slight shadow does work.
Cheers Glen, I think you may be right, I did want a dark & slightly moody portrait but not sure it turned out that way due to the smile & think that lifting the shadows a tiny bit more may have added to the image. Cheers for the feedback, am off to go buy a reflector now
