Cairn Holy II - Dumfries and Galloway.

This tomb was built by early farming people living in the Neolithic period. between 6000 and 4000 years ago.

They were designed to house the remains of many people and were used over several centuries.

The tombs at Cairn Holy were created when the farming and fishing was quiet, and were created by the community.

This tomb was fantastic. For something to still be here on this land after all this time. The day I ventured to it the mist had closed in and the area had a very spiritual feel. The sky is very blown by the mist, but I wanted to try to capture the magical feeling in my treatment of the shot.

C&C very welcome :)

I do like the shot and the toning. I'm a sucker for this ancient history stuff - fascinating!

Can you enter it or is it basically just a mound?

Thanks for the comments.

It's just basically a mound CT, or should I say 2 mounds as there is another about 100 yards further away. When I work on some of the other pics I'll add them. I think its one of the most "special" places I've been too.

Very nice shot. I like the colours and the element of mystery about it.

Nice processing - the toning gives it a feel of a book plate

Fascinating - my grandfather was born at Cairn Holy and I still have relations in the area at Creetown.
