Having sold on the 30D to my son (at the cheapest price ever ):) and bought the 40D it is about time I concentrated on getting the hang of it all and might even post a few images on here soon:D
My gear comprises 40d, 24-105 IS L, 70-300 IS, 50mm 1.4, 430EX and a cheapy Cosina 19-35.
I have never had much time to concentrate on the hobby because of building work and to be honest I took a lot of images in "green box mode" on the 30D.
So, next week me and the son are going out together on a "shoot" to see what we can do behind the camera. He Knows about as much as I do......not a lot....so should be fun:lol::lol:

There's nothing wrong with the green box if it lets you forget about what the camera's doing and concentrate on what you're looking at through it.
There'll be plenty of time to get to grips with all the nuances of exposure control and while it's good to know what's doing what and why, it comes a far second to your creative vision. As long as you're enjoying it, all will come to you in time. :)

I started off with an EOS10 years ago and took some cracking pictures on my two trips to Japan, oh how I would love to be there now with the digital format. What hindered me at the time was my wife's impatience at me setting the camera up for the shot so just went into green box mode to keep the peace. She eventually nagged me into buying something smaller so along came the digital era in the shape of the Canon A95, graduated to the G6 but soon realised how much I missed handling an SLR and the 75-300 zoom capability I used on the EOS10. I then bought a second hand 30D from AV forums, a 24-105 IS L from stuv uk plus a 70-300 IS from Kerso this forum. The 50mm 1.4 is my most recent buy also from Kerso.
I also have to learn how to resize the images before posting although I can post on flikr.
Computers.........my greatest difficulty:thumbsdown:

Yep should be fun and I hope it is, I am doing a same ish sort of thing next week me and she who must be obeyed are off to Spain for a weeks break in the mountains, have packed the camera and a book by Bryan Peterson (recommended here). The plan is to return having read, understood and put it all into practice, thats the plan anyway. Hope you enjoy time with your son its precious. Regards Jim
I'm taking mine out as well if it stops raining! Not sure if I should use the autopilot, or if I should give everyone a good laugh and use manual from the start to see what comes out
Hope you have a lot of fun with yours :D
