Welcome! Unfortunately, you missed the focus on this one. Go for the eyes, not around the eyes, go for the eyes! Were you manually focusing or auto? If you're not already, it's much wiser to use manual for close up macro. Look forward to seeing some more

YES i am aware of how to focus, however i got one shot at this then it flew off, gone. just thought i would pop a fun shot up as my first post, i think it shows my personality:bonk:

Nice shot but shame a bout the focus. DOF is silly in macro! :D
What magnification is that? 2:1?

1:1
Hmmm, my 1:1 lens doesn't seem to get that close. Is that because I'm on a crop sensor?

No. 1:1 means something 1mm will be 1mm on the sensor. With a crop sensor you won't fit as much in because the sensor is smaller, that's all. I suspect the bee image has been cropped in post.

Yes focus is critical in macro work- you did well to get a reasonable photo in one shot. I normally end up taking loads of pictures of one subject- and sometimes the whole lot are scrap!

That was what I thought but wasn't sure :)
The cropping makes sense :)
