So I opened the display cabinet door and shot one of the Lilliput Lane models.
Light was directly from above so I might try it again outside the cabinet.

Nice idea with the detail in the model, could do with a WB adjustment and a contrast tweak?

Could you use candle light to mimick and old gas lamp and then set a long exposure? You wouln't need to see the candles, you could hide them behind the house! Stick a few out front out of view to flicker onto the house too, I think it would look awsome. Cool idea :)

Slightly closer crop, together with a WB adjustment and slight sharpen would work better for me.
