Been lurking here for a while so this is my first post. New to owning a SLR and took it out for the first time today to see what I could get. Its a Canon 40d. Images taken with 50mm lens.

C&C welcome. Thanks

Very good for a first attempt :) Keep it up

Might be a bit of a stab in the dark here but where did you take those photos? The top one looks like Etherow country park in Cheshire?

thanks for the comments, they are both taken at Etherow.
Was very wet, windy and dark there today!

Jim Bob that's amazing!!!

Not sure I'd recognise a close-up of my back yard

As for the shots, I think that's a pretty darn good attempt there for anyone newish to photography (or is it you've been a Pro with a 5x4" for 20 years first and you're only new to a DSLR???)

Nice one(s)

I have a bit of a funny history. I trained as a graphic designer about 16 years ago and photography was part of the course, back then I used a 35mm praktica if I remember correctly. I have always worked for creative agencies but on the account management side and have been wanting to get into photography for a while now. Messed around with a Holga for a bit of fun these last few months and then recently decided to take the plunge and get a DSLR.
