We made the long haul into Wales yesterday to the Pembrey Circuit for the Christmas tarmac stages so I could try my new MkIII out in anger, oddly for South Wales the day started off with sunshine, but soon after lunch the grey returned, it was very windy all day and stupidly I forgot my monopod, so had to handhold my 120-300mm all day.

Amazing as per usual fella... How many shots do you find yourself taking to get keepers like the ones above?

I was going to choose some favourites, but I can't... I like 'em all :)

Thanks, #5 is the only one that received any editing, there was a group of teenagers ruining the shot by being in the background so I cloned them out!

So is your Mk3 the blue dot one or an older one with the sub mirror assembly fix? Are you on 1.1.3?

The EVO is my favourite, but #5's blue escort is a stunner. Love the old Escorts. :) (Personally, I would never have guessed you did any cloning on this one either. These are truly fabulous shots, well done to you. Unfortunately, we missed this rally. :'(

The old Escort looks fantastic and immaculate.

I am sure POO 504 R was a famous plate,and looking at the colour scheme guessing it could have been one of Hannu Mikkolas RAC winning cars.

Anyone know ?

Found this:-

POO-505R was the last (WORKS ESCORT) to carry Cossack sponsorship the fist car to do so was HHJ-700N and the second KHK-983N but you are right about the number plate swapping in 1979 we see POO-504R in LHD with Vatanen at the wheel in early Rothmans colors and supposedly the next month it is seen on the RAC rally with Andrews heat for hire livery with Russell Brookes in RHD.

I did have a little look too,but did not find out as much as you.
There are still loads out there,and many seem to compete in Ireland from what I see on Sky.
Full chat millington BDA,BDX,BDG ,now there's a sound ,Castrol R oil ,evocative stuff.

Were these taken from spectator areas or were you signed on? I have yet to venture down to Pembrey and am curious what the track is like for spectator shots.

Yeah circuit racing is pretty small here in comparison to the massive rally scene.

That's the beauty of rallying, as a spectator, as long as you don't stand anywhere really stupid ( like where the cars are going to be! ) you can stand pretty much anywhere you like :)
