Just thought I'd share the bargin I bagged yesterday with you.

Been looking for a couple of weeks at a new TV, saw a Sony in Sainburys for £699, after doing a bit of research it turns out that its the bottom of the range so to speak.

Then saw the advert at Currys for a 40" Sony V3000 down to £899 from £1399. WOW I thought, but with Currys no 5 year guarantee.

So went to two of my local Sony Centres they said they could do the TV for £1199 but it had their 5 year guarantee, I said well John Lewis has a 5 year guarantee and they will match the price of Currys, Sony guy said well if they go bust you will lose any cover, I thought what kind of a statement is that??? As if that would really happen.

He went onto say I've sold loads at the higher price, people are coming in asking to match Currys price, then I tell them Currys have no stock and then they pay our price. This is true but Currys can get them next week?. So he lost the £1k sale anyway.

I um'd and are'd, but thought I'd try John Lewis as they are never knowingly undersold etc. Phoned them up ask about price matching they said no problem but the price match team won't be in until next week. So I went in yesterday, spoke to a guy, said I wanted this TV with a stand and can you match the £899, he took me over to the TV on the wall and it had already been reduced to £999 from £1299 and they were throwing in a Playstation 3. Cool!!!

So for £999, I got the TV and a Playstation 3, TV £899 Playstation £100 if you like.

Thats a great buy. I personally would rather buy from John Lewis their customer service is second to non and if things go wrong they bend over backwards to help resolve it.

Tell you the truth, I not a gamer really, but as the guy at JL said (Sony Visitor Person) Its worth it for the Blue Ray player, so I'm gonna do some scouting around for games, quite fancy the Call of Duty that i've seen on TV adverts.

Totally agree! We always buy most of our stuff from them. You can't fault them for their service etc.

Sainsburys are doing a 26 inch Sony hd ready tv reduced by £200 down to £349 I thought great but I have Sky. To replace my Sky+box would cost me a min of £199 then an extra £10 per month on my Sky sub to get the hd channels. I don't think so!

Good deal though, my brother just got the W3000 with upscaling dvd recorder, glass stand and 3 year warranty for £869 from empire direct (instore)

I'm a big games fan, got myself an Xbox 360, and the PS3 is also on my endless list of things to buy.

If you only buy ONE game for PS3, get Call of Duty 4.
It is out of this world, seriously. Really really fantastic game.

And big thumbs up on the deal!
Sounds ace!

PS: Just so you know, its Blu-Ray, not blue ray. :D :coat:

Yeh I think I'll go with COD4 as I've always fancied the game from when the first one was advertised a few years ago. John Lewis still have the deal untilthe 3-01-08 if you go into the store you can order it, though it may take say a week or so if it is out of stock.

Antihero, nice deal for your brother, did he do some haggling? I see Empire have put the price of the V3000 back up to £979 was £899, but the W3000 is £1199.

Why do shops insist on trying to sell you a warranty or insist that a warranty is worth spending extra money with them to have

I had a similar experience with the Sony Centre in the Trafford Centre, they had a telly almost 600 quid more than digital-point.co.uk and the guy wasn't too happy when I turned round and said - why do you think I need a 5 year warranty from you, are you telling me your tellys are gonna break?, coz if thats the case i'll get something else

he couldnt really relpy to me other than to say, well thats the best price we can do

Warranties are just an insurance policy really, you take one out and all is ok if it goes wrong, or, you take the risk and hope it keeps working or only ever needs cheap repairs. Free warranties are always good! :)

richer sounds warranty is a no brianer for me, 10% of the items purchase price, and if you dont use it you can get your money back at the end.

Still no pics yet, watch this space.

But my HDMI leads came yesterday, so I wired up the PS3 and chucked in Planet Earth Blu-Ray, speechless.....

The picture quality is amazing, never seen anything like it. If you haven't got HD and are toying with the idea, I can definately recommend it.

Will do them, now I've got the leads, still need to suss out how to get the sound down to my surround sound unit from the PS3 effectively, without loads of cables and a lot of switching AV settings, need to look into digital/optical audio cables?

Then when nice and tidy the pics will come.

from having a snoop around it sounds like the best (or most popular way) is an optical lead from the ps3 to your receiver, but make sure you change the sound settings on the ps3 to tell it so!!

Glen
