View Full Version : Library of free CDs ?
Just been through this months Digital Photo Mag's CD of tutorials & no longer need the CD. The thought occured to me that I would be willing to post to someone else, as long as they post on to someone else once they finish with it. So basically a Library effect with free items to get around any legal wrangles ?
Could this be an option to share information between members & keep track somehow on who has what ?

Hi Dave - I get Digital Camera Magazine. While I think the mag is excellent the cd leaves a lot to be desired. I see other Photomags with a cd that has interesting content but I don't want the mag so I think there's some mileage in this, but it could be a logistical nightmare. Did I hear you volunteer?
regards
I think if we started a thread with descriptions of each CD that is kept updated (no probs doing), then the thread would just be cut'n'paste of previous list of CD's with current owners & then just update the CD that has moved hands.
eg. was
- Digital Photo Dec 2005 - DJW
- Digital Photo Jan 2006 - DJW
- Digital Camera Magazine Dec 2005 - Stepheno
after you request 1st CD I just update as
- Digital Photo Dec 2005 - Stepheno
- Digital Photo Jan 2006 - DJW
- Digital Camera Magazine Dec 2005 - Stepheno
& the thread continues. It would take kindness of owner to pay P&P to next person (2nd class stamp envelope....ro just keep using same jiffy), but you would get something back if you borrow a CD from someone else.
Anyway, down to site owners to decide if legal in their eyes (Let us know guys). From reading T&C's it states "...for personal use only and it's contentsmay not be used commercially nor distributed in any way without permission" . Now I think we get around that as the site is not distributing...it is just allowing people to give away their items between themselves (peer to peer stuff)
i will look into the legal aspect of this chaps, but dont post anything more till i have found out
many thanks
we have had a positive responce to this, so hang tight and we will think of a way of doing this so it works well!

Just another point Dave - "Digital Photo Jan 2006 - DJW" won't mean much to me unless I browse the mag. Could we not incorporate a brief contents eg
Digital Photo Jan 2006 - DJW
5d Review
Video - Layers
Video - Curves
Plugin - bevels etc

we are looking at how we can do this so that it works well, be patient, Padawans

Sorry Sir... :stupid:
most likely thing is a new forum, with threads for each coverdisk, the content can be listed and the thing tracked better that way....
Ok we will be doing this soon, i have loads of DP cover disks too, it will be done soon, we have something else to sort out first then a new forum will be created for it!
Excellent !!! I've got my library card ready for stamping ;)
I have a few discs that I will be able to throw into the library once the doors are open. :)

Well done that man ... DJW wozzit :confused-
What's the score on the legal implications of this? It all seems a bit hazy to me and I'm sure nobody wants to get in trouble.
For instance, one of the rules is 'no copying'. But does that mean you aren't allowed to install anything off the CDs? If so then whats the point? Or do you have to uninstall it before passing it on?

Good idea and glad to see it come to fruition :)

I have written permission from Digital Photo to use the cds in the way we are, they are not averse to people sharing the information :)
