How about a chat room

i have noticed that lots of us are on this site at the same time, you can tell by the speed of the replys sometimes.
SO, how about the powers that be giving us a chatroom, we could specify a time for general meetings, or just wander in anytime.

Wouldn't interest me. I did the IRC thing in the early 90's - the novelty soon wears off.

I think forum sites grew because of the fact that live text chat is by its nature exclusive of those not on line at the time. It also often deteriorates into argument as some joking remark gets taken seriously and its all too quick to be calmed down. That and you have to think too quick!

I have no objection if others want the facility and it is possible, but you won't find me there :)

I'm with Robert, been there done that. It's fun for a while but not really useful unless you are online 24/7. Nothing worse than going into a 'room' and asking for help only to find everyone there is away or a bot.

At least with a forum you can take time to work out just what you want to say and you know you won't miss anything important because it scrolled off the screen while you were in the ladies room :)

not mad on chatrooms, dealt with one for a long time on MEG, buggy, overly time consuming for admin and open to abuse(been there, done it)

I have to agree with the others, I can see why you would ask for a chat room and also when it may be useful but I feel that the forums are currently small and friendly enough to almost give you the feeling of one to one help/conversation but with a far bigger knowledge base. As you say yourself we are all online at approximately the same times and members are usually very quick at supplying answers.

We also don't mind occasional idol chat threads being posted in the general section if you just feel like letting your hair down and having a giggle. Again due to the membership base we have here, those kinds of threads are not going to become the majority so a little fun every now and again is acceptable as far as I can see. Obviously the same rules for swearing, manners and behaviour exist and the team will moderate were they feel it is required.

Please don't ever be afraid to suggest something, the other members here will tell you that some of our most popular things were suggested by members.
