View Full Version : Your Best, and your Favourite for '05
Rather than the usual you get on forums everywhere, something a little different from us(©tpf :p ),
we want you to post 2 shots, 1 is your BEST shot of the year, and one is your FAVOURITE that you've taken this year, we all know your favourite isnt always your best, and vice versa, so lets see them please! At a point yet decided, we might have a poll to see what you all think is the best overall!:D
What a great idea, I wish I had thought of that  :smilenod:
What a great idea, I wish I had thought of that  :smilenod:
heh...i did say we!:D
Still time left this year to actually do a best or favourite! ;)
... oh, and can we ban Steve from this as he's too good!! ;)

:exit:
Since I have no where to go or anything to do over the 10-days X'mas/New Year break, I'll devote some time to getting intimate with my 350D. :) Hopefully, I'll produce a couple shots that I like.

Great idea ... agree it would be good to include anything for the rest of the year too though ? Mainly, like Kamion to give me a chance to find something I would want to post !
By the by ... still relatively new I would be grateful if someone would remind me how to post please ? Sorry ... I know I was probably told way back when I joined but ...
This could be my opportunity to really get (even more !) hooked into this forum thingy !
All advice gratefully received as usual.
... oh, and can we ban Steve from this as he's too good!! ;)
Pfft? Too good? Seen his blue snow?
/runs v quickly :D
sorry :D

My favourite shot is this Eurofighter Typhoon at an airshow at Elvington I went to this summer.
As they are over the filesize limit here is the link to my favourite (http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~tprocter/Various/42.jpg).. :)
And this shot of our pup is my best shot (http://homepages.nildram.co.uk/~tprocter/puppy/pup2.jpg) because of the super sharp image and creamy Bokeh.. :snap1:

First up and two great shots Busterboy - only surprised they weren't the other way around ?
As Matty suggests ...
"we all know your favourite isnt always your best, and vice versa" - just goes to show how differently we view our own work compared to how others may see it !
I can't say which are my "best" so to speak but this is my favourite:
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/demrog/Pics/Lakes/hawk.jpg
I suppose my best is this one. I tried for ages to get this guy but he wasnt keeping still long enough. Eventually he landed in just the right spot to give me this great oof background with the oof plant in just the right place to form a strong compositional triangle with the body of the sparrow and the fence forming the base.
http://www.thephotographyforums.com/albums/album23/Sparrow_On_Fence.jpg
This is as good a candidate as any for a favourite. This group suddenly decided to line up and pose for me - or so it seemed. I had to remove some zoo background from the shot, but most people who see this now assume it was taken in India. :)
http://www.thephotographyforums.com/albums/album23/indian_Elephants.jpg
Here's what I consider my best:
http://www.bachs.shutterschool.net/gallery/albums/userpics/10001/bw1.jpg
and my favourite:

Some great shots being posted, the Eurofighter photo by BusterBoy (edited now) is just supurb :thumb:
I'll have to have a good look through mine before I can make up my mind. I have taken far to many photos this year.
Hmm, for best I'll go with
http://www.hardmuirstables.co.uk/pictures/closeup/hoverfly7.jpg
For favourite I'll go with
http://premium1.uploadit.org/scottydod//closeup2.jpg
The Euro fighter was busterboy :)
Damn! The levels getting too high already! Some top work there peeps! :)
Dod - I'll go for the biker shot - good sense of movement and drama there.
Macro leaves me cold I'm afraid - too much time spent photographing circuit boards as a 'yoof'...

Ta.
I've got a bit of a love/hate relationship with that particular macro shot. Some days yes, some days no. Sometimes I think that even though it's reasonably sound technically there's no spark in it
Best :-

stepheno, love that football shot, but can't help thinking the caption should be something like
"Oh **** missed it"
or
"Oops, butterfingers"
It would be a great photo for a "Spot the ball" competition.
I think its staged, I'm sure there are some wires in there holding him and the ball up! lol ;)

I knew you'd sneek in with a couple of stunners :hissyfit: - although I reckon I've seen better ones from you :thumb:

Its not been a good year. I don't think I've taken more than 300-400 pics, but anyway.
Favourite (taken in Cairo):
http://www.zen39361.zen.co.uk/stuff/fav1.jpg
Best (taken in Menorca):
http://www.zen39361.zen.co.uk/stuff/fav2.jpg
It had to be one of my infamous vertical landscapes ;)
I think vertical landscape shots can work very well as you are clearly demonstrating. I have a few from this year that I an very happy with too.
Good thread idea.
I think this is probably my best shot of the year (click image to see/read the blog entry for it):
http://www.jameyhoward.com/images/photoblog/37.jpg (http://www.jameyhoward.com/photoblog/index.php?id=37)
And as for my favourite, it's a really tough one. I guess I'm going to go with this (again, click to see blog entry):
http://www.jameyhoward.com/images/photoblog/8.jpg (http://www.jameyhoward.com/photoblog/index.php?id=8)
But two others that deserve a mention are:
This one (http://www.jameyhoward.com/photoblog/index.php?id=47), simply because of the story behind it and the whole day in general.
This one (http://www.jameyhoward.com/gallery/viewpic.php?gid=164&resultpage=33) because it was my first ever shot of a homeless person and I haven't taken a better one since.
good damn shot awesome shots coming out here, much better than i thought! got to really think about the shots i post now...
snip.
Nice shots there, not really a fan of people stuff but those ARE good :thumb:
Umm tough choice.
My (current) favourite:
http://www.standerwick-images.com/albums/Frosty/fishing.jpg
Best: http://www.standerwick-images.com/albums/July/forks.jpg (too wide to post)
I guess this has to be one of the highlights for me this year ! :)
Non standard crop and i know some people dont like that, but i do :)
http://www.cookster.co.uk/gallery/images/wmarked/watermark_Tiger5acropsm.jpg
That tiger's ace. Really nice pic.
Erm, can I change my favourite? Sorry to be a pain in the ass, it's just that I'm rather fond of the way my one for today has come out. Even though it was a hasty shot, with the camera around my neck ('shooting from the hip' type thing) and it's got massive motion blurring... I still like it.
Here it is, clickable as ever:
http://www.jameyhoward.com/images/photoblog/61.jpg (http://www.jameyhoward.com/photoblog/index.php?id=61)
Thanks Jamey,
Even though im not an exponent of street photography, you have some excellent images here mate :)
stepheno, love that football shot, but can't help thinking the caption should be something like

Or perhaps........
'The goalkeeper's impromptu Russina dancing proved popular with the opposition'
My best of the year (hanging in my dining room):

and my current favourite is:

My best? hmmmmmm,
http://www.thephotographyforums.com/albums/Westonbirt-Arboretum-Autumn-Colour/Maple_Leaf.jpg
Wow. Some nice stuff there. Particularly that red leaf.
Ian - Thank you. And likewise with the wildlife stuff. Ought to try to get to a zoo at some point, really.

I consider one of my best this year was this sunset pic which sold at auction for £1000.00 to help a kidney research charity.
http://www.gbcproductions.co.uk/photography/forum/sunset.jpg
and my favourite was from the naseem car crash as it has made me £4500.00 so far.

/me does 'Save Picture As...' and sells Naseem pic to local agency.

Hells bells Gary that car is a mess...
I heard about Nas in a smash around your area some time back but never expected the car to look that bad, He is lucky to be alive..
Not wanting to take this thread of topic I read some threads on another forum about the way Nas drives round Sheffield.. :nut:
Great thread this BTW.. :)

Changed my favourite in original post :whistle2: ....well it's on my desktop ;)
Well I can't say I have a 'best'. I never win anything so the shock of this one winning from 45 entries for the theme 'beach' on my ex home AVF means I have to choose it...
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robertmpeacock/tpf/Frinton.jpg
I hadn't had the 20D that long when we went for a long weekend to Prague. When I got back and went through the pictures I was dissapointed that the focus was not where I expected.... then I found out about only using the center AF point. Anyway this one is my favourite - focus is not quite there but hey, you have got to love a coolpix with that lens you can twist backwards :D
http://homepage.ntlworld.com/robertmpeacock/tpf/tourist.jpg
That last shot is hilarious :laugh1: I would be very happy to have caught that moment.

is that a new undisclosed variant of chimping ? ;)
That was live chimping :)
Maybe a bit OT but if the thread had also asked 'what did you enjoy shooting most this year?' as well, my answer would've been Donna Nook and the seals but it was just beaten by a pleasant summer afternoon shooting village cricket (with a lens that was too short!)
This is probably my best shot from the past year, taken in Paris in October - handheld 1/160th @ f10
http://www.itsnotarace.com/tpf/flamethrower.jpg
This is my favourite, although seeing as I was driving at the time (friend took the picture with my camera) I'm not sure it counts lol
Handheld 1/100th @ f5.3
http://www.itsnotarace.com/tpf/hairpinleft.jpg
So few best ones to choose from.

Don't know if my processing will ever do it justice.
That's a dramatic shot Ken !!! The processing reminds me of those art pictures where you have to scratch off the black surface to get to the silver underneath.

Its so simple, and shows the car really well. I have a 40cm x 50 cm version on my wall.
Not sure any of my images are really up to showing as my 'best'.
Love that Joe. Beautiful car, but tidy up that back window! lol

Matt!!! That is a very nice shot showing (even under the helmet) 110% concentration before the off..
If I arnt mistaken that looks too skinny for Michael Rutter so I guess its his team mate Ryuichi Kiyonari. Forgot the helmet colours...:)
