View Full Version : Possibly My Best Robin Yet :)
Still practicing with my 70-300mm today i was lucky enough to snag this shot which i reckon is my best robin so far:clap:I had just finished changing settings and was about to refocus when the robin decided to take flight, sometimes serendipity can be a handy tool in photography..!
If anyone could suggest a better crop i would be grateful, as you can see there isn't a great deal of space to play with.

Its unfortunate about the washing line (or whatever in the background) ideally you prefer the space in front of the bird for it to fly into, and leave less space behind. This crop makes it feel a little claustrophobic unfortunatly.
Im sure with the practice you are getting that will improve no end though :)
:agree: great attempt... more to come.
keep going.

Is the post thingy too much to clone out so as to get the rule of thirds effect as you describe.?
Thanks oldgit & Ladybird :)

Just play around with the cropping.
Or maybe:
1) tight to tail and just below feet but give little more space on rhs (ie crop out line post).
2) using your crop, crop more off lhs so bird and post are central (ie you will have a tall narrow image).

Some great Bokeh on the background, you should be able to clone that out no prob!

Awww, Yours is a lot better than my crop, you got a border and everything!!!!! :D
I disagree, i think yours is better, i don't think the rule of thirds really helps this shot at all. I wouldn't have thought of a simple square crop, thank you :)
Okay i think i got it with this one, thanks for the input everyone :)

Nailed! A good crop has just made a great shot! Well done.
Yep much better :) the rule of thirds is only there as guidance, you dont have to always adhere to it, although usually its pleasing if you do, as you can see its not always the best option though :) that little bit of space in front of the bird has opened up the image and given the little chap somewhere to go without banging his head on the frame :)
i had a play about hope you dont mind

You certainly got there in the end Marc. Well done.
@EdinburghGary - No tripod mate, i was in the car at the time and just rested the lens on the window ledge.
Yep much better
Thanks IanC Uk
Really like that edit Jade thank you for taking the time :)
Thanks Gerod :)
Nice capture! I'm not at a computer with any editing software - but how about a simple flip horizontal? That would give you stacks of room to play with.. and keep it as sharp as possible.
Gary
lovely capture, I like ladybirds crop best, but still, a lovely shot.
