Hi,

I bought a SIGMA 70-300 APO MACRO ZOOM LENS off e-bay for my Canon D400. The lens is in fantastic condition, but there seems to be a problem. It works ok on Autofocus and auto settings, but when I try Aperture priority or shutter speed priority, the camera freezes and can not take the shot.

The lens autofocuses fine, just freezes when the shutter is pressed.

I have tried the lens on a friend's D400 and I get the same problem.

Can anyone suggest what the problem might be?

Many thanks....:(

Some of the older Sigma lenses do not work on modern DSLRs without re-programming, it could be that

Have you looked at the compatibility chart on the Sigma website?

smiffo do you lnow how old it is, or can you post a picture of your actual lens? we'd be able to tell roughly it's age from the style.

One thing to try is to give the metal contacts a clean with a nice soft cloth, might be worth a try.

Does it work ok in manual? I have a 70-300 APO and it works fine on my 350D

Mr Grubby is right, mines the same, just doesn't work in anything other than auto modes.

Interesting thread, I took the same type lens out this afternoon on a 40D, the camera was set on tv mode and it worked fine for me so it could be a programming thing as MrGubby said.

Ah, it's not the latest version of that lens, certainly.

Sorry, I hate it when someone gets my surname wrong so many apologies.

Saw the pic, exactly the same as my lens. Mine shows 'err 99 when I press the shutter release.

Looks like the old style, so it may need re-chipping by sigma

From the Sigma Users Forums :-
If the lens can be re-chipped, Sigma UK is the place to get it done.
Give them a ring on 01707 329999 and ask. You will need the serial number on the lens, as there are a number of different models.
They will tell you if they can re-chip and give you a price which, I believe, is not too expensive.

thanks - I'll give it a go. I've already emailed them with the same request and included the pic, but have not been home since to see if there has been a reply.
