Connecting laptop to tv with hdmi lead

Has anyone connected a latptop to their hd tv by an hdmi lead?

Ive connected them (the laptop has an hdmi socket)... but then the tv doesnt display hdmi as a source any more (it does when connected to the sky hd box)

Just wondered what im doing wrong.

Im having to connect with a normal PC connection to the tv which doesnt take the sound.

Might be a setting for the gfx card to specify what kind of signal is sent?

Some TVs won't take HDMI from a laptop - just double check the manual for the telly Janice.

My laptop works fine through my mum and dads tv but won't carry sound to my samsung over HDMI. My manual tells me that it won't accept a HDMI link from a computer and I have to use VGA/phono.

Ah, well, the tv IS a Samsung so thats probably the reason.!
