View Full Version : When tilted shots work
Saw this elsewhere & was intrigued by peoples shots.....so why not give it a go here. Post up any shots you have taken that were tilted for a reason .
I'll start it with an archive, where I felt the tilt to the horizon made the sheep seem more imposing, like on gangster movies ;)

Erm, seen it before and thought i would try it ! lol
Tilted shots work very well, provided they're tilted far enough so people don't think "ffs that horizon's a bit off".

Couple of tilted ones from me. Both done simply because I thought flat shots looked too dull.

Deliberately tilting the camera can make your shot look a lot more dynamic.
All of the examples above work realy well.
Here's a couple of mine.

I will be going again this year, heres a link (http://www.silverstone-circuit.co.uk/racecalendar/default.asp) to the dates :) loads more testing events this year not just F1 !
If someone wants to set up a date, I'd be interested - not much going on for me until the next round of elections...
I'd be interested too. Never tried motor racing :)
For those nearer to Bristol there is always Castle Combe.....lot cheaper to get in, plus closer to track than some others. OK so you don't get F1 cars ;) but plenty of other racing.
On test days, it is free to get in at Silverstone for the F1 photos. It doesn't get any cheaper than that ;)
I have four days booked off next year to go to F1 testing at Silverstone. It would be great to meet up with you guys.
IIRC (but not entirely sure lol), Im going 23rd Feb, 26th and 27th April, and one day in May.
I will also be going up there for many weekends over the year.

 WOW.....surprised old Bernie hasn't got that one tied down.
Always thought Motorbike racing was better to photograph, as easier to show sense of speed through bikes leaning, sliding , wheelieing (?) etc....

Thats cos Bernie doesnt own the circuit, and they want to test there because its the site of the Brit GP :) They make up for it with expensive food on site and you can pay for a centre transfer, plus you are restricted ot the luffield complex ! :)

I'd be interested in meeting for one of those dates. What's the minimum focal length you can get away with for this circuit ?
I used a 200mm with some fantastic results, add on a 1.4x convertor and you are laughing. If you have longer lenses your results could be stunning. Using Matt's 800mm we got some incredible full frame images.
I would so like to do that. WHere's the nearest airport to silverstone? If there's cheap flights available I might just make the effort
Silverstone is an airfield so if you have a plane sorted ;)
Nearest airports would be luton, east midlands or birmingham ***
If you're into bikes, Donington is good for photo opportunities - especially if you can get near Goddards as you can see loads of the track from there.
Word of caution though - take a picnic for after or something. You won't be getting out of the car park in a hurry on race day. Took over four hours just to get out of the car park when I last went two years ago.

Those tilted shots look great, they just wouldn't be the same if they were straight :)
I'm up for it again this year, it would be nice to get a few shots of the BAR's, now that they are black.
Next to the Lowry at Salford Quays:

are they staying Black Matt or is it Interim, like the Williams? they have gone back to the 70's colour scheme they had until they launch the new car at the end of January
