I decided that before I can attempt arty and moody shots, it might be a good idea if I can attempt some well-lit shots. I've been playing around with my relatively meagre lighting setup and I've managed to get a shot that I'm quite pleased with. Any opinions and advice are very welcome - always looking to improve :)

Love it - nice shot and better in colour - think if you could get that white background sorted it would be a pearler!
Try this I posted a while ago - may be worth a shot . . .

Love the framing with the arm/body.
I'd be right proud of that, even though technically it might not be an amazing shot (not saying it isn't, because i don't even know :p)

thanks guys :)
@Vinny - I'm working on the white background, I think it's playing with my flash and causing erratic exposure so I'm trying different things to see what works best. Apparently I was giving her a headache firing the flash at her every 30 seconds so we had to call it a night tonight! pfft! Will hopefully be able to deliver some more in the week, on a white background for oldgit and your good self ;)
@foodpoison, thanks very much - I am quite proud of it. Got to stop using our awful sofa as a backdrop though!
Oh my GOSH, is this the same girl? amazing what a smile can do eh? Great pose, nicely focused, loads of detail in the scarf and sweater, nice work.
Thats really lovely! a nice natural pose and great result :) what was your lighting set up then?

@Emma - I know, she's SO much prettier when she smiles! thanks for the comments, I'm really enjoying shooting her at the moment :)
@HanC - thanks you :) the lighting setup is a D200 with mainboard (fires before the exposure so as not to influence the shot) to trigger an SB800 (TTL) on a stand half way between the ceiling and the floor and half way between my model and I
thanks for the comments, I'm really enjoying shooting her at the moment :)

hey! it can get difficult when you shoot someone and they hate every single picture because of stupid reasons that you could never justify! :p
