Shots taken on the streets of York during the recent meet, quite a lot of 'HDR' or tonemapped shots in here just to make the sky look like anything but a white mess!

One of few modern buildings I saw:

Park Gates (just looked nice as I walked past)

So many places and directions to go!

Same signpost again, but with Minster in background:

I love the last one. The receding walkway adds interest on top of the great ferris wheel and other lighting in the shot. I assume this is HDR too?

The ferris wheel shot is very good, there is lots to look at apart from just the wheel

Love the lollipops and the spinning ferris wheel, but, coming not from an expert, I think the windows in the red brick building do not look right to me, like as if only the windows have been over-sharpened.

Nah you were LDR on that one :p

Thanks, and yeah I am not too happy with that shot with the red brick building in, had to process it a lot to make anything really stand out, and it still doesnt look good. Was a bit soft too so has been sharpened to within an inch of its life, which the foreground has taken to better than the detail in the windows I think :(

That "dark york lane" actually makes me feel worried for laura walking on her own down there

Nice shots, lots of variety!

question you take these in raw then made them hdr? or combined two exposures using raw? as I keep getting overexposed skys so i'd like to use this technique to help.

2 and 9 are my faves :)

Most of the 'HDR' shots (IE the first 4) were 5 exposures from 1 RAW. -2, -1, 0, +1 and +2....though I didnt use the +2 (overexposed) shot for the signposts one as they were just too noisy.

For more info have a look at Pete's Guide - http://www.vanilladays.com/hdr-guide/ :)
