I'm new to photography, about 12 months, and have found a passion for portrait photography.
I prefer B&W to colour, and I love grain in a photo..........but I'll let you decide.
I'd love some feedback and will accept criticism of all counts.

The following photos are of my daughters, who are my models. Not full on front shots, as it was the expression, and the feeling they where feeling at the time I was trying to catch.

I listed these in the 'welcome forum'; but only had one feedback; the rest were just hello's (which is nice anyway).

#1 is a cracker, did she cry when she stood on the stone? Seriously, you have captured the moment well.

#2, seems too close to me.

However,each to thier own......

[fracter] - No 1, but she laughed so much as the waves came in, they were miles away from her.

Yeah No2 shot was with my 50 1f.4 and looking at the metadata it appears I shot it with 1.4..............was trying to get the eye in focus and missed the rest! Good point though.

Thanks for you honesty...it will help on the next shot.

The first is my fav, I would have preferred to see her facing toward the camera though.

That's some great stuff there. No.1 is bang on the money for my tastes. Both technically and artistically it works really well. Great amount of expression and it's easy to be there in the moment with you both. The conversion to B&W is just how I like to see shots too, good strong blacks and pure white both just where they should be.

No.2 isn't working for me as it is there though. There doesn't feel like enough space on the left of the shot somehow. I thought it actually works better if you crop in closer so that proportionally, there is a little more space for her to look into. Also the conversion isn't as nice the other one. ............

oh sod it, it's easier to try and show you what I mean...

A very rough edit and the tones aren't right but it gives an idea. :)

[sbowler579] the idea was that you thought about the expression, rather than you seeing it in the shot. it was always a 50/50 idea, but perhaps I should have taken one looking away and one looking at. Your point taken on-board.

[dazzajl] Yes that does work better, I see the benefit in cropping tighter, takes the out of focus ear that I think [fracster] might have been talking about. Thanks.

No1 is my fave... B&W suits it perfectly.

You kinda know she has a big grin on her face even though she is not facing the camera. :)
