nice shot CT
and if Sam has deliberately shown a red X, that very funny!
I think the pictures thread need a link to an explanation of the concept. go *here* for the rules sort of thing.
The second entry is an archive - a good one but....

which is why the concept needs restating :dizzy:

you need to sharpen your pencil CT! ;)
Great pic I think - I love close up things like that :)

OK... who's been talking? :rain:
If its such a big deal I'll delete it. It fits the category I thought people would be interested. I don't always have time to take stuff specific for an internet Forum. I was out running a photo comp on Xmas day, so its not like I don't use my camera. I thought this was a friendly forum but its a bit more 'jobs-worth' than I thought :(
Please don't take it that way.
I made the comments here because there is (was?) no guidance obvious to someone coming in new. There was nothing to tell you not to use an archive.
The last time this idea was run there was lots of discussion as to what it was about - without that you could not know.
Leave the pic - it's a great shot and it does fit the theme. It's not a 'competition' as such anyway beyond the fact that we do vote on the submssions and the 'winner' gets to choose the next theme.
The idea is really to take a pic to fit the theme, but you initially declared it to be an archive shot so that can be taken into account anyway, and I'm sure people would rather see the shot than not see it. :)

Just waiting for Samstans building to turn up on one of those rebuild programmes ;) ....btw I don't think anyone was meaning to have a go , just lots of enthusiasm on the site for people to keep shooting :).....reminds me I must take a shot for this
CT, now what did your mother say about pressing too hard with the pencil !!!! ;)
Good shot Catdaddy. About time we had another shot in there. :)

Nice one, Steve. I was thinking along the lines of a jigsaw as well, but I don't have the patience to do them if they don't have pieces that are at least 3cm wide!
hi
thank you, fortunately my wife has just started building one, so i thought i'll nip in quick and take a few photo's.

Grrrr! I can't see a lot of the pics now - all I'm getting is the Red X instead! Tried switching to a different ntl proxy server, clearing the cache, etc. No joy. Any ideas?
Different isp? seriously the problem must lie with NTL somewhere, I can see them all.
hi
i'm using NTHell , but i can see all the pics ok.

Strange. I've tried changing to a different ntl proxy a few times, making sure IE checks for new data on the pages, etc, and it makes no difference. Works on my machine at work, but only sporadically at home...
This is on both my machines - one of which is going through a proxy server on the other machine. It's a right PITA!
So can you see 'em now Chris or not?
Have you got 'Show Pics' enabled in Settings? You need to do this in either IE or FIrefox.
Catdaddy
03-01-2006, 09:17
The problem is intermittent, Cedric. At the moment I'm at work, so I can see them... I'll check at home later...
I could understand it if I was getting the same thing on other forums that I'm involved with, but it only seems to be this one...
Firewall settings at home maybe?
Catdaddy
03-01-2006, 10:01
I'm sure it's ok, but I'll check later on anyway. Might explain it, though - everything's going through Norton Firewall, which I've heard plenty of bad things about...
i'm using full Norton m8,
no probs here at all,
antivirus 2005 and firewall 2005

I don't use Norton myself but it could be possible that the two of you may have them setip differently. ;)
I was just trying to think of possible reasons/soloutions :)

i agree, i was just saying that my Norton has no problems, so its possibly a user/setup thing ??
you do have to tell it sometimes to accept certain sites , but a popup usually lets you know if the site is blocked, so if you got a popup blocker ( which i also have ) you might not be seeing the message from Norton ??

Pmsl!!! I didn't change anything last time!!!
Blimmin 'eck, a load of entries and a new section to the forum has appeared!
I had some crazy plan about dropping glass objects from my kitchen window and trying to photograph them smashing today.
Then my 'friends' talked me out of it.
Hrmmmph.
When does this one end BTW?
Just taken my shot......good old stick man ;) .....and unlike Ghandi's destructive nature I didn't break Mr Stick
Some really good photos here chaps and chapesses! I really like Steeps one but I think its a bit extreme wasting beer like that!

Seems to be an absence of spill evidence - pointing to an empty break ! Just call me poyrot !
And ... forgive me for being tik Sammy, but although your post intrigues I cannot make it out ? Perhaps your intention ?:confused-
Dave had stickman idea too, but got his posted first, but seeing as i like mine, ive left it on anyway!

I want to make it clear , that unlike Matty, no stick man was injured or abused in any way during my photo shoot ;)

Probably collapsed out of sheer relief...
I can see the injury laywers queuing up ...
yeah, Stickman Protection League gonna dig up my dead grammies bones and hold them to ransom till i give my stickman to a safe home and stop experimenting on him....
Ken I really like that shot! Hope it's not your engine that isn't running. I would never have thought of a shot like that. My hubby is a mechanic and I have a WHOLE garage of goodies that I could prolly have some fun with. Looks great! I also like the DOF in that.
jewel
Thanks Jewel, fortunately not mine...this time. Called in to a garage just to ask if I could take some pics.....They told me they don't use the wrench often :nut:

I've added my contribution. Sammy, will you tell us what your photo is of, at least once the comp is over?
i like that swiftwind, the doll has a suitable look of surprise already which really helps the shot!

Thank you Matty and Catdaddy! :)
Poor doll has been like that for a while, and makes a rattling sound when I shake it. I think it's from the 50s or 60s as it's my mum's... I've always found it to be pretty interesting though (probably because of it's eyes - which open and close - and outfit).
SW, really like the composition of your (doll's freaky though!), lighting and everything work wonders! Nice!
PS. I keep meaning to post a piccy of the offending article!

Thanks for the comments Sammy! :) Yeah, it is a pretty freaky doll, ...but I guess that's what I find interesting about it.
Some very ineresting interpretations of the theme this time. I, as normal, have wheeled out my bible of phtographers cliches for this one. had a bit of a play building myself a lightbox and mucking about cos there's nothing on telly tonight!
I've included a couple of shots of the setup as I was quite pleased with effect!
The orange glow to the light was achieved with the aid of quality street wrappers! I did try blue and green but they made the egg look a bit rancid! LOL!

It's really interesting to see how everything has been set up for your shots, Gandhi. ... I was wondering how you got the orange glow. I just noticed something, is that light resting on a box of cigarettes?
yes it is! an empty one!
It's ok, it's a low energy, eco-friendly, tree hugging light bulb, and they don't get hot! It was the only thing i had that was the right size to get the light the right distance from glass, too close and the shape of the light showed up, too low and it wasn't bright enough.
Short answer would of been 'yes'
But I'm known for being overly verbose!
Nice shot from yourself btw, things like that doll give me the creeps. Looks like something out of a horror film!
Cracking shot Ghandi ....get it ;) :getmecoat
....and he didn't shell out for any fancy lights either. :getmecoat

I believe he did earlier in the thread Swiftwind ... a flourescent light fitting ! Broken of course ... apparently ! :laugh1:
Changed my entry now I am no longer annoyed with technical failure :)
