I keep trying to use my background and supports with my lights but each time the background shows as creased. I think one of the reasons for this might be that my subjects are too close to the background.

What sort of distance away from the back do you place your subjects?

I've heard 6ft but i still get creases.

Thanks

Hi Alan, i went on a studio seminar to try to learn all this and yes the distance recommended was AT LEAST 6ft. The other thing to remember though is depth of field. If you are shooting at f8 or above there is a good chance that you will get the background in rather sharp focus. You could try shooting at a lower fstop to try to isolate your model. You may need to introduce a little more light to compensate for the f stop change to keep the same overall exposure.
Hope that helps

My subjects are rarely 6ft, more like 5 or 4

Are you trying for a white background or what? Post a shot so we can see your problem and offer some ideas

Thanks - trying for a white background but less than about 9ft seems to give me creases. Even though a handmeter reads F11 on the background.

try pouring more light on the background
enough that it's a couple of stops overexposed
and the creases will evaporate in the heat!
