...& here (http://www.fredmiranda.com/reviews/showproduct.php?product=105&sort=7&cat=37&page=1)

For that price is it new ? ...if so open to anyone else. Otherwise £560 from Onestop

Now I could do with that lens for Silverstone ;)

Really?

Why is Nikon's IS technology so much more expensive?

MyPix

dont know m8, but jessops do the 500mm F4 for £5299
400mm F2.8 for £7499
600mm F4 for £7899

so its a slower sigma for me , lol

My colleague at work has one and takes some great nature/wildlife shots with it.

Ive only really heard good things about it. However, I think these comments tend to take into account the relatively cheap price of the lens. Its no pro lens, and is rather slow.

And to people who say it is heavy, i say pah! :p My sigma 120-300 2.8 weights 2.6kg compared to the 1.8kg of the Bigma. My Sigma is way to heavy tho!

I'd say for the price its a good buy. Just be aware of the speed.

They are super telephoto lenses though, not zooms!

The Canon equivalents (pricing from Jessops again)

500mm f/4 - £4449.99
400mm f/2.8 - £5499.99
600mm f/4 - £5899.99

My boss has one of these and really rates it......the only thing bad about it is the weight, but if it's going to be on a monopod who cares ;)

I have one, I've had some great shots with it. I've missed many more because I wasn't carrying it.

Clearly a lens that size is only ever going to be with you when you know you'll need it but there's nothing in the 400-500mm range that's going to be lightweight.

With digital I can always compensate for this when I need to by using ISO 800.

Cleese - I'm AF-S 600, I look down on Bigma and 70-300 APO because I'm upper class

Barker - I'm Bigma, I'm middle class, I look up to AF-S 600 because he's upper class but I look down on 70-300 APO because he's lower class

Corbett - I'm 70-300 APO, I know my place

Very clever.....with my 70-210 I'm underground class ;)

MyPix

DJW .
why didnt you go for the 70-300 ED APO lens,
it would have given you more power than the 210 ? and can be got for £180 brand new

Image quality is not as good from reviews , plus not as fast AF. I did borrow one for a weekend & found the images to be a bit soft at full zoom...but for the money cracking lens. Really bought the 70-210 to a) see if KR review was correct & b) make some money selling back on if not happy with it ;)
I keep looking at the 70-200 VR lens....but near £1K is hard to swallow ....maybe once I've sold my house ;)

And I'm 100-300 f/4... and I'm too busy looking for picture opportunities to look up or down at any of you :bum2:

I have this lens and it is very good, if you can cope with the aperture..

At anyhting over 200mm it is f/5.6 and f/6.3 at 500mm..Still for under £400, you got a GREAT deal...

I'm looking at getting a 300mm F2.8 and using a TC with it.. (really want the VR version, but it's £££!)

MyPix

well,
i'm getting all excited,
the lens has been packed n posted, tracking number provided and insurance added for free

and yes, i have checked, lol, its on its way

MyPix, that is a bargain, well done. It's a really fun lens, specially when you take that first shot at 50mm, & then zoom to 500mm and check out the difference.

well done Vince

Thanks Matty, you've got some pretty good stuff there yourself.

Was tempted by a Nikon fit version on EBAY, but it ended up going for £492 !!! . It's only £70 more new from onestop :nut:

i was watchin that one to, just to make sure of my bargain lol,

only finished a few mins ago jumping by about £100 in the last few mins, i didnt like the way he described it as new, as i have only used it a few times ? what does that mean , lol

one advantage over mine is that it was in the UK , but i aint got long to wait now
