Some shots from our trip to Paris a few weekends ago. We were incredibly lucky with the wether - it rained overnight both nights but we didn't see so much as a spot of rain all weekend! After careful consideration we thinned our kit down to the two camera bodies - my 30D and Ben's D30, along with my Sigma 12-24mm and 24-70mm lenses, and Ben's Tamron 19-35mm and Sigma 70-300mm ones. We also took my Manfrotto tripod between us and shared it. I have to say we got the balance between weight and range coverage about right - We both used all four lenses at some point or another and the long one proved invaluable for picking out ground level detail from the top of the Eiffel Tower!

1) The Memorial De La Deportation is dedicated to the memory of all those sent to the concentration camps. The main focus of the interior is this corridor with walls of thousands of tiny white lights. There is a light for every camp inmate. Makes you think, doesn't it.

2) Gargoyles around the top of Notre Dame

3) The interior of Notre Dame

4) Another of Notre Dame

5) The surreal moment when we discovered that, in Paris, the Sparrows have learnt to hover in front of you and beg for crumbs! Absolutely amazing - this one did it repeatedly giving me plenty of chances to capture the action!

6) The fantastic blue sky makes a great mono conversion!

7) And a touch of HDR, just to see the results really!

8) The view from the second floor of the Eiffel tower, looking out towards Montmartre

9) La Grand Roue - looking through the "Paris Eye" along the Champs Elysees towards the Arc De Triomphe

10) Sacre Coeur on a sunny sunday morning - dramatic angles courtesy of the Sigma 12-24mm.

Should you find yourself in Paris again I highly recommend a trip to the Catacombs (the legal bit), if you want some really spooky pics. Paris is great for photography.

I really like the B+W and the HDR shot of the tower though shame there is a little fench around that tree.

Hey Jonny! The 12-24 hardly left the camera, and when I took it off mine, it didn't take the other half long to appropriate it - in fact, I think I'm going to have trouble getting him to keep his mitts of it when we go on holiday at Easter!

No problem at all at any stage - in spite of taking pics all over the place and several times having Police and armed soldiers all around, not once did anyone challenge us at all. :)

Thanks for the comments everyone!

1 and 2 for me. Some very well seen shots there. Shame about all the tourists in Notre Dame. Couldn't you have asked them to leave? lol

Hey Witchy woman ... :suspect: ... missed ya ... :D

Some excellent and real cool images you have brought back with you Robyn ... ... brings back all sorts of memories I thought were long dead ... :suspect:

AND ... if you just knew how much I really detest everything French you might know what it took to open your thread ... ... but then I saw your name and images of a broomstick flying past the Eiffel with the moon somewhere in shot sprung to mind for some reason ... :naughty: ... irresistible ... ;)

And that Sparrow ... :suspect: ... I reckon it's a Robin in disguise ... :naughty:
