View Full Version : Signatures ?

Seems to be a blip in some postings as far as signatures go - is this a temporary fault ... do not adjust your set type thingy ?:hissyfit:

e.g. - per this post ... mine has disappeared ???

And then re-appeared !!!

Marcel
04-01-2006, 23:35
/puts magic wand away.

We're tinkering with some settings behind the scenes as to the display of signatures. Do not adjust your set, we really are aliens. :D

Don't worry, we're not editing signatures, nor disabling them so to speak :)

Watch this space.....(a signature might appear...lol)

Thanks for being quick off the mark Marcel - believe it when I see it !?!

See what I mean though ?

I think this is an option the vbulletin has, to just show a signature in your first post in a thread, this is to make the forum faster I think.

my signature is suposed to appear here... if I put another post, may be its gone in the second one if I'm right. lets see..

ppuga
05-01-2006, 05:44
second one... (with no signature because of being my second post in this thread)

ppuga
05-01-2006, 05:46
i was right, this option is very helpfull in forums where the users have HUGE signatures with links to images, smilies, animations, etc. So it only loads once per thread, makes reading easier and faster.

Thanks to admins and mods for this option.

mmm

my signature appear again....:Ponders:

may be its one post yes and one post no.. well lets wait and see. :whistle2:

Steve
05-01-2006, 07:31
Vbulletin offers two options with signatures by default, either all on or all off. However there are hacks available to allow just one signature in the first post someone makes into a thread, all other posts in that thread by that poster will then be displayed without a signature - just as ppuga has said. ;)

But that's not what is happening here. :grinshake

Marcel
05-01-2006, 08:42
may be its one post yes and one post no.. well lets wait and see. :whistle2:

That would be the Hokey Cokey Hack.

You put one sig in....one sig out......in, out, in, out, you shake it all about.......

I think that you just need to be a bit verbose in your reply. For example, this reply is short

IanC_UK
06-01-2006, 15:03
hmmmm very tricky indeed !

SammyC
06-01-2006, 15:05
... whereas this reply I'm being a bit obtuse and replying with an unnecessary amount of words that doesn't really clear up what I'm talking about but does go to provide a longer answer than the previous one that is quite frankly not long enough to trigger the signature.

Of course I could be completely wrong but I'll only be able to tell that when I attempt to post this response.

What I'm wondering is, that if I'm correct then why would you want your sig included if you do a longer response. Is it to shorten the quick conversations that sometimes happens on these threads?

2blue4u

Surely the premise that reducing the number of sigs in a thread to one per poster will speed the forums is false due to the effect of the readers cache?

It makes the forums more fluid and easier to read plus helps with site SEO ;)

Marcel

It's more to do with fluidity and finding a balance between showing signatures and keeping the forums easy to read.
