Went to a hide near doune today and managed to get these,all taken with the bigma at 500 handheld.Should have taken the tripod.Also managed to drap along the wife with the samsung gx1l:lol:

not bad at all, nice set, shame about the wing tags on the kites, i know they are great for ID purposes, but i think they look ugly.

yep sorry wasnt intended to be saying negative things about the pics, cos they are good, is just the wing tags annoy me lol :)

Thinking about going there. Is the hide quite close to the feeding area. I HAVE A NIKON 200-400 VR Lens. Will that be enough

It's ok Ian i know you were'nt being negative and i do agree the wing tags are ugly on a great bird.

Windward i think your lens will be fine ive just posted some taken by my wife with a samsung with lens at 200:thumbs:

I never have much luck photographing red kites, I must try harder, the tags indicate where they were born.

Left Wing Tags

Yellow - Chilterns

White - Midlands

Orange - Yorkshire

Red - Central Scotland

Blue - North Scotland

Green - South West Scotland
