Not up to the usual standard of this forum, but its the best I can do. (I blame my cheap lense  )

Walking back to the car I spotted about 12 of these woodpeckers in the grass .
I had to get the camera out of my backpack and change the lense in the middle of a field before I got these.

I keep looking at a long lense for wildlife but just end up getting confused over which one

You did well to get any shots i love the cannon fired one.
The thing with green woodpeckers is you often hear them but difficult to see beside the camo they are very flighty and are off before you even notice them.
Nice job

Great Captures !!! Where abouts were these found, do you reckon that you can get any of these up in northumberland ?

I spotted these on the south east coast.
Yes you should have them up there according to the RSPB.

Hmmm! I can only see one Woodpecker in the grass ... me thinks you lie! ;)

Actually, I like the mid-air shot, it looks kind of funny/cute.

Hi David Green Woodpeckers are classed as well represented in Northumberland good areas to see them include the College and Harthope valleys, Kielder Castle, Bakethin, Wallington Hall , and Havannah NR near the airport. You often hear them Yaffling before you see them.

As a bairn i can remember seeing them in the park at Hexham.

Nicely captured.

I have a couple come into the garden where I work almost daily. But light there is very poor and the shots I've captured are not nearly as good as yours.

Well done.

Thanks everyone

I saw them on a very remote flat part of the east coast where there is only one small wooded area within miles.
They were in the grass next to the wooded area when I spotted them, but soon after I got my camera out they all flew off into the trees, and yes there were at least a dozen of them.
Also saw a kestrel and chaffinch in the same wooded area.

I shall be keeping my camera out next time I walk past this area.

LMAO

I love the aforementioned shot. The bird looks in shock though, bless it.
