Hi

Well it’s time to take the plunge and ask for some critique. Being new to photography I went out early yesterday morning to take some shots. This was only my third time out with my camera and so far I have only had a lesson on aperture and shutter speed so am still very much starting out. I would very much appreciate your opinions on the shots below, I haven’t done any post processing on these images (other than a bit of lightening on number 3), they are as they were when taken

Thanks

HI Noodles and welcome to the forum. Just a few points on the photos

1) Basically its 2 dark as the sheeps head is lost in the bushes behind, but the sheep and broken down tractor on 3rds which is good.

2) This photo I like the most, just get rid of the con trail in the middle of the photo and and house/barn at the base of the photo is a little distracting once you notice it.

3) Number 3 is a good photo, but the dark tree on the right spoils it to much, but it shows plenty of atmosphere which is good.

Hope this helps

Gerald

The second shot is really good, as above edit out the bottom building etc (crop) and clone out the white thing in the sky and it might improve it, really good though

For me, 1 doesn't do much for me, but that is not a reflection on how it was taken, as imo that was done quite well. 2, I agree, the contrail is too small and as such its presence in the shot is not powerful enough to add to the shot. Otherwise I like it :)
3. Now this is a cracking shot. I personally think the exposure is about right, and this is what I would expect to see at a scene such as that when the sun (and reflection of which) is at that state. My ONLY minor grumble about this shot, is that it was taken in portrait. I think being able to see more of the surroundings would help massive amounts, and give the shot more details for the eye to sink into, ultimately encouraging people to look on for longer. If you happen to have a landscape version of the same scene/shot, I'd love to see it! :)

Hi Noodles and :welcome: to TP :)

Considering these are your first shots I think they're rather good.

As already mentioned, No1 is too dark which is a shame because it has the potential to be a lovely shot.

I love No2 & No3  They both say to me that you have a good eye for composition, and that's a lot of the battle won with taking a good photo!
