Heres my Moon effort...I was using a tripod and a remote but still couldnt get it as sharp as I wanted :thinking:

Any pointers to improve my technique?

try a faster shutter than 1/100.

1/250 should give a better result or 1/300 or even 1/400

try all of them !

Close the aperature down more and try mirror lockup

as above really. your shutter speed is far too slow. the moon is alot brighter than alot of people think.

Still a nice shot though!

What makes me laugh is that the focus ring on my 70-300 is nowhere near the infinity setting when it gets the moon sharp. I mean I know it's not actually in infinity, but 385,000 Kms is a bloody long way, I can't think of anything further away I'm likely to photograph :lol:

Yes- sometimes pays to switch over to FULL MANUAL for astronomical subjects (our cameras are designed and programmed to deal with faces on sunny days!)
