Parked the car and walked a short distance up the fell, needed time out from the bad things that have happened. I know that this is a 'one way' valley that the jets use so thought I would have an hour in the sun and silence that this area provides. I now know, well I did as soon as I got up the hill that I was on the wrong side of the valley !

Taken just off Dunmail Raise in the Lake District this was my first time 'Big Bird Hunting' - its tough, lol !

1. Incoming........

2. Damn that sun and my incompetence.

3.Lost footing, Grrrrrrrrrr

4. Onwards into the beauty of the Lake District, looking North towards Thirlmere, we have a couple of Lake District icons, Dry Stone walls and Hills !

There have been some really great shots of jets on here the last week or two and I, like everyone else have been very impressed.

I have to say though that I've enjoyed the more human, day in the life kinda thing that you've posted here just as much. Also, not everyone would have posted these up, even though it's what most of us would have ended up with.

Cheers for sharing and I hope the time out from the bad things worked out too. :)

It was not a planned day out, just an hour on a hillside with my own company and camera - no planning whatsoever hence wrong side of the valley and I couldn't be arsed to climb any higher, lol - bad things, well, funeral Monday :(

I think it will be nice to see what I evolve into photography wise and if my next outing yeilds better results !

Fair play for getting out dseered....nearly nailed that Hawk....your shooting up at the plane and the low sun does play havoc sometimes........you just need to find a good location in the lakes area to get good shots of these jets.
A better location will enable you to shoot down on the Aircraft.......so that would be worth researching.......Bill (Explora56) knows the lakes inside out so it may be worth having a chat with him.........can always contact him at www.flylow-flyfast.co.uk he will be able to help........Cheers Barry

Yes I find it hard work 'winter shooting' I think finding a good location will enable better shooting and there's some good shots that can be had from the Mast.......springtime is much more pleasant to get out and wait for 'action'......you need plenty of patients with it but the photography is rewarding......lots of time yet its only February.......you WILL be rewarded for your efforts sooner or later........it ain't easy!........but thats what makes it a bit special.........Cheers Barry

What a refreshing post .
That would have been me no doubt, and I would probably have forgotten to switch the camera on,took the lense cap off, walked up the wrong hill, and more likely sprained my ankle.
Still you had a chillout, which was needed and time to think in the cold ,crisp air.

There's always next time.

Great to see you out on the hill sometimes it puts things into perspective time to reflect and maybe look forward a little. Shame you went up on the wrong side the Mast site at Tebay is about the best just at this time of year you can shoot there all day other places you have to change over. There seems to be a bit of traffic about at the moment so better luck next time.

Cheers
Bill

Not alot of traffic up at the mast today, other than two idiots jumping around trying to keep warm, we stopped short of hugging, well we had only just met :)(G&A Images) I often pass over Dunmail though when working and nearly always see some activity, bit difficult to weild the 400 when driving though !

Look mate, heres the score.
You got out there and did it.
The images you posted were what a few of us would have disregarded a "binners".
The time you spent on the hills was well needed, and enjoyed.
You'll go back, we always do, its like a drug.
Sit back and remember the experience, the pictures dont mean a thing, the thrill of doing it will last a lifetime.
Thanks for posting, take care.

Just looked back over the shots and cropped this one down, it was shot in RAW although I have not done any processing, nice and sharp already though :)
I know I wasn't high enough, or they were not low enough should I say !

Well I don't I know it (THE cold) - we musta have bin mad !

Bill had said it had it would be addictive, and despite the freezing temps and no planes, will try again - me and Dseered shivering to death and fog closing in - god despite full north face gear it was coooooold - had heated seats and full heating blowing in the car on way back !!!

Bill can tell you there was NO traffic Wednesday :)

Just two blokes with cameras, frozen to death one with toothache and the other gone past the point of feeling pain !!!!

Anyway here's to next time

Yeah but we had gloves on and the finest Mountain gear money can buy, them 'L' lenses really absorb the cold and transmit it right through warm gloves to render your fingers useless, going to get some of those hand warmer snappy things and chuck 'em in the bag 'just in case' !

As the song goes "Things can only get better".

I can't imagine anything worse than freezing and no entertainment and touch wood I've not suffered that fate completely yet. But taking it as a learning experience you must now realise what's involved and being prepared for the inclement weather, I'm renowned for the "Tardis Flask" which dispenses vast amounts of steaming coffee throughout the day .

Keep at it, you will get results .

I'm a lucky boy though, left home, went round Morrisons for some grub, drove up there, walked onto the hill - all in 25 mins :)
