Made this image from a squence of 4 on recent holiday in canada. Did quite a lot in photoshop afterwards to make it more arty - for some reason I wanted that feel to it.

Just wondering what everyone thought really. Coulda done with a faster shutter speak I think etc but my first time taking pix on a slope. Be interested to see what others have captured in snowy conditions.

cheers guys:D

Cool perspective, the 10-20 sigma lens is magic for aps-c sensors. Good stuff, post the colour version if you still have it, I wonder if it looks better.

cheers atasuke, yeah love that lens!! To be honest the reason I went with B/W is because it was quite a grey day and there wasn't much definition. I'll see if I can get the colour one up here for comparison too

Is that at Lake Louise???

Maybe you can give me some advice. I'm off to Canada myself in a couple of weeks, and really want to take some board shots in a park. However, I never know what I should do about cameras, seen as it's so bloody cold out there. I have a D-80 and a couple of sigma lenses. Will they be okay to use???

I love the shot btw.

I LOVE it - is it hard to learn how to do this?

Hi Aimee and Kev, thanks for the comments. Yeah it was in lake louise.

I had mitten gloves with thinner gloves inside which meant i could use the camera without my fingers dropping off.

I would have thought your camera would be fine aimee, all I used was a 350D with my sigma 10-20mm lens on it.

I took the photos raw on continuous shooting (i think it takes 3 frames a second) then I combined the images in photoshop keeping one photo for the background and then putting the others on top but erasing around the snowboarder.

I then mucked around with the levels for ages afterwards to give it more textures. A polarising filter may be good to have too

I like the angle on that, if it was a whiteout day you did well to get the contrast out in post and unless the rider is wearing uber bright colours b&w is probably best.

With regards to the cold - silica gel pouches in your camera back to absorb and moisture, should cut down on the condensation, you'll get used to riding with a pack on in no time, to me it feels strange riding without one, but always try to get at least one day on the hill per trip without the camera.
