View Full Version : Fortnightly Assignment 'FAITH' (Discussion)
Should be interesting this one,
All I've got to do now is dig out my old gideons bible, and I'll be laughing ;)
...& no using your silhouetted cross ;)
Excellent topic! SO many ways to interpret that!

Great choice Ghandi ?!
Silly me ... thought it traditional for the setter to be first up ??? :whistle2:
Now - :Ponders: how does one depict hell again ...
This section of the forum has a sticky 'competition rules' . This 'Assignment' idea is a bit less rigid but it kinda assumes everyone knows what it is all about.
Any chance of another sticky with 'Assignment guidance' or similar so a new member knows what it is all about?

Hear, hear - specific to the 'Fortnightly' would be useful as the existing gives a rather 'hard 'n fast' impression ? :smilenod:
People don't read the stickies or the rules ;)
However your wish is my command, I'll sort something out today for you. :innocent:

Thanx Steve - seems to do the job ... although there was a bit of (heated ?) discussion, if I remember at the start of the last one about 'old' or 'new' photos ! I believe the consensus might have been 'new' is preferred ... on the basis the whole idea is to encourage everyone to get out and about taking stuff ?
I might be wrong ... :smilenod:

Sad, but True.
And I'm as guilty as the rest...

Join in if you like, you can post old or new shots, but in the interests of personal improvement, new shots would nice!
That sort of covers it I thought? If people want to submit old photos dressed up as new ones then they can easily remove or edit the EXIF to make it look original and new, short of someone recognising the shot none of us will ever know anyway. As it is not a competition and there are no prizes, if they do that then they are only deluding themselves. Just my 2p's worth ;)
I can however re-word that sentence if you prefer?
The only reason I've not been posting images in these is I feel that it should be an image specifically taken for the job, not something you trawled your archives for...
That's just cr*p, that is and serves no useful purpose. The whole idea (in my mind at least) is to show everyone how you interpret a brief at short notice, not how good your indexing works.
It's normal to add something like "sorry if that offends anyone, blah, blah, blah..." but I just can't be bothered this morning - the weather's cr*p, the house still isn't sold, my ex-Mrs Hates me, I hate her and the kids, I want a new car and can't afford one, I'm getting fatter despite running 5 miles a day and eating less...*rse, s*d, B*gg*r, rant, rant, rant... :hissyfit: :hissyfit: :hissyfit:
There was a heartening number of images submitted for the last fortnightly assignment, especially given that it covered the Christmas period, but considering our membership now, it would be nice to see a lot more entries. The same applies to the monthly competitions.
Of course it's challenging, but that's the whole idea, and you'll learn a great deal interpreting a theme in a limited time. There are no losers in these competitions anyway, it's a straight win/win situation as far as gaining experience is concerned. :)

This is indeed the spirit in which the assignment was intended. It was never intended to be a competition as such, just a way to try and get people to think outside of the box, and to get people who would normally be intimidated by the idea of a regular competition to post some images.
All seems to be well with it at the moment, I think the number of entrants for these sorts things will rise in time though, I think it takes a while for people to feel confident enough and comfortable to start showing photo's.
I very much take it as an excuse to try something completely different in the way I take shots, rather than a comp. It's only by going outisde your comfort zone that one can hope to improve ones photography ( christ sound like Prince Charles ;) )

How can you be sure, you keep hearing these horror stories of people on the net hiding behind pseudonames pretending to be something they are not
I never saw a poll to vote on this one? :Ponders: Oh well, good topic of choice there. I myself have never attempted anything like this. Cool
Arkady.......Look at it this way man, it can only get better right? :)
Cheers,
Jules

CAMILLA, stop chewing that Hay, we've been rumbled !!!! :D

I wondered that as well :)
No complaints here either though. Guess it was felt necessary to lose the delay. I shall continue my 'get no votes' policy here and in the monthly so I never have to choose a theme ;)
I think this time Gandhi just chose a theme and nobody seemed to object. :)

I think I may have forgotten under the guise of either a) expediency or b) not really having any good topics for the poll! ;)

Nah ... not worth it just for my contractual interpretative sake (that's the job !) :laugh1: as you say it is simply serious fun after all.
But thanx for the response, and the offer Steve ! :thumb:
Boons shot is good, like the idea, would maybe darken it a little more, slide the left hand slider along in levels. Good though!
Like that Boon - nice interpretation.

Well it certainly ain't charity, is it?
(Sorry mods - this should be in the 'discussion' thread...')
It is.......:D
Thanks to Matty and Arkady for their useful comments, and yes i will darken the side a tad more, i liked the theme also, but out of about a dozen ideas i was thinking of, this was the simplest one to do.

i just cant think of anything away from religion, Boon your idea was brilliant
Thanks Barrymoir, my first thought was a close up of a child holding a mothers hand crossing a busy street, but not too sure how many woman around here would like you pointing a camera at their child, so decided to go with my next thought.
Just think what do I put faith in ? I was going to shoot the computer screen with Windows asking if I was sure I wanted to run this exec.......but I don't have enough faith in it in the end ;)

Vote is cast - sorry I could not fit one in this time ... ten days of decorator mayhem at home ! Excuses ... !?!
Best of luck to all who managed an entry though - some interesting takes !
So then, we gonna allow stepheno's entry then?
I say yes! rules are made to be broken.
I had a brilliant shot lined up for this, but I haven't been able to get out to shoot it!
I know, excuses, excuses, excuses. Oh well. There's always next time. Off to cast my vote now!
i put Stepheno s entry in anyway, serves me right for not being quicker doing the poll, but i was doing more on the gallery see!
Congratulations to Dave(DJW) for the winning photo from the FAITH competition, well done mate, :censored:(not really jealous)
well done to all other entrants.
Cheers guys , although only 1 vote in it so pat on the back to all of us who entered. :)
