Here is a snap I took a couple of weeks back of the Domus Dei (Royal Garrison Church) in Old Portsmouth. It was one from my first ever sunrise shoot. In fact it was the best of a bad bunch. Need to experiment a bit more and hopefully get better results next time round (used my canon 28-135 lens).

The roof of the church was removed by our German visitors in the early 1940's.

I thought it was hard getting tradesmen but thats ridiculous :bang:

I quite like that but there are two things I might have changed. The first is cropping out the buildings on the left as they don't add anything. Second is exposing for the sky and getting a full silouhette of the church. :)

You'll have to excuse my ignorance as I'm still wearing the L plates. Is that the same as saying...take the light metering from the sky and then recompose the picture?. It certainly wasn't what I did for this snap as I had auto-focused on the church.
I'll give that a try the next time. I'll also have a play with the aperture size and compare results.
On my return I could easily recompose the picture to avoid the buildings you mentioned as there is a field and grass bank to the right of the church.
