I was trying to shoot some DOF stuff for my college work, ended up with this image and don't know what i think of it! What you think? I like the old rusty look?

Its a nice subject, but it needs a few tweaks.
Heres my take, crop and straighten, desat, contrast adjustment !

It's a nice picture, more striking in the BW due to higher contrast, try higher contrast in the colour?

no i agree it looks way better, I really need to get my head around photoshop, i get so annoyed with it, i don't really understand it all, maybe i should try finding some online guides for it, i've only owned my DSLR since Christmas, never really had a need for PS before! I've got CS3 & Elements 6 and they both have layers which seem so confusing! :P
Thank you...

You could go for even more contrast in that mono version for a more dramatic look...
Try using Gimp for a while to get used to editing, it quite easy to use and free...
When your better at editing, you can move on to your photoshop !!

Or gimpshop (http://plasticbugs.com/?page_id=294) so that when you move on to Photoshop (by no means inevitable...) the menus will be largely familiar :)
BTW there is a raw plugin for The Gimp as well...
