I am currently in limbo, i have put my 400D up for sale as i wanted to upgrade to the 40D mainly for the fps rate and the ergonomics of the camera. I currently have 17-85 IS lens and Tamron 28-300 as well as a 430EX speedlite, left over from my 400d. This was the main reason for choosing the 40D upgrade path. Though reading all the reviews and google searches i am not sure if i am making a wise upgrade, especially with the news of the K20D and gx20 coming next month at a similar price??? Is it worth me selling all and swaping for different brand, if so should i go to nikon? I could probably stretch to buying the D300 but then would run out of cash when i came to buying new lenses?? Any advice or recommendations would be gratefully received.

bump. personaly, for what you,ll lose on the other kit, i,d stay canon. 450D? 30D?course you could go 5D but then your lenses wouldnt be good anyway.
i,m sure some nikon types will be along shortly

I think the 40D would do you proud, and it's perfectly compatible with all your kit.

It's the logical choice!

What specific issues have you read about which are making you feel uncertain? There are plenty of 40D users on here now - post up your worries and they will be able to set your mind at rest, or not, as the case may be!

Unless the extra 1.5 fps is important to you then I'd go for a good 2nd hand 30D and use the extra to get hold of better glass....maybe ditch the 28-300 and add the proceeds to the body saving....a 70-200/2.8L would just about be within reach.

I like the idea of the live view on the 40d, sometimes i get into positions with the camera that makes it hard to see through the veiw finder (low down shots etc), but the spec difference between the 40d and D300, and the newly published Pentax K20d and gx20 has me all confused. I like the feel of the 40d (had a go in curries), and i like the ergonomics, i just feel that i am not getting much of an upgrade from my 400d for my money??? I am also worried as i have seen many rumours on google about a new 50d(or 40ds etc) coming sooner that anticipated, does anyone know anything about that???
Cheers
