number 1 is great lots of action but I feel theres too much dead space to the right so it could do with cropping abit also could of been abit closer or more zoom?

Number 2 is great I like how you captured the movement in the water just the bottom half is a tad underexposed.

all in all though a great first effort! :)

Yup, a little too much space in front in #1 and #2 could probably be fixed with some simple photoshop work... i'd show you how with both but you have chosen not to allow people to edit your pics in your forum prefs, so I will honour that :D

Aha! You have updated your profile and given me permission to play (we all like to respect people's work and not reproduce/make derivative work unless the owner says its ok!)

How about this then:

Well, thats only your picture with some simple level adjustments in Photoshop - took me about 30 seconds :D

Looks nothing wrong with your camera at all, your settings look ok to me, although its showing me the program mode was "undefined" - what were you using AV? TV? Manual?

Sometimes you get strange things with large light objects in the centre of the frame when its a dull day - a few tweaks afterwards though in Photoshop will bring it up lovely though :D

Cheers.......as for what i was using....

Canon 400D
F-stop f/11
Exp 1/200
ISO 400
Focal length 31mm

Still getting to grips with what all these are but think i was shooting in Av on the camera.

The metering was set to matrix which is basically taking a best guess at what the exposure should be taking all elements of the scene into account. At a guess I'd say it was ever so slightly fooled by the white sky and discovery and you ended up with the mud being slightly underexposed.

Like the second :) First is too small in the frame to really work.
