It really shook my house on the east coast of yorkshire, proper earthquake.
Speaking to a friend in birmingham and he felt the tremours.
So it must be a quite a big one.
Yep, felt it here in Chester. Was just dropping off and all. Quite fun though :)

Wtf. I thought someone was shaking the wall or something, slight but disturbing.
It was very rough here near Boston.. I screamed for my hubby.. the curtains were swaying and everything... and it seemed to rumble on for ages!
Yep, woke me up in Nottingham, the cat has gone and hidden under the bed and won't come out, first quake I've felt in the UK (in fact first quake at all) very strange.

A 'proper earthquake' is the result of tectonic movement along breach lines. Afaik there's no tectonic breach line within a 1,000 miles of the east Yorkshire coast. You possibly experienced the resonating tremors of some off-shore submerged landslide. Or of a collapsing subterranean cave system. In the last half century we've been busily emptying the earth's crust of oil and gas in that neck of the woods. Creating considerable collapsible voids. And sometimes they do.

I was up surfing at 12:57 and there was a Big Thud as if something hit the house, followed by a lot of rumbling and shaking for about 10 secs.
Sh@T myself!
First Tremor I've felt.... Last one in 2002 i was asleep through when my partner woke me up I just said to my partner "what you on about, you must've been dreaming!"

Was pretty intense here in Manchester, the whole house shook, felt so wierd.
You could really feel it, I was eating pizza in my living room with my housemate and just looked across to the fishtank we have, real rumbing of the water in it.
Crazy!

Funny thing is the 'Earthquake View (http://rev.seis.sc.edu/earthquakes.html)' doesn't show it. Yet. But Auntie Beeb is on the ball (http://news.bbc.co.uk/).

We live about 20 miles away from the epicentre. House shuddered causing a couple of items to fall over. My initial thoughts were that one of the Refinery's nearby had gone up.
It scared the family a fair bit. I wasn't happy at all to have my sleep disturbed!:lol::lol:

I woke up about a minute before it hit.... why? Probably a minor pre-tremor or summat.
Whole house shook quite impressive really, hopefully no one has been hurt.

Felt it too here in Warks. I was just going to bed and heard what sounded like people running round in the loft. I just put it down to the resident ghost & went to sleep!
15 miles from the epicentre here according to the latest reports. I'd just fallen asleep when the house began moving, the bed was shaking like mad, when I got out of it and stood up the floor was still moving under my feet.
Quite an experience!

First time the earth moved for me in ages! :p
Odd really because just before it 'hit' I woke up really struggling to breathe, like really hyperventilating,
so I was in a panic anyway.
When the bed started to shake .. I thought the end was nigh ... it was like being in the blooming Exocist! :gag:
I got some photos, but my IS cancelled it out
I slept through it, sort of. My wife woke me up with "What's that noise???" The wardrobe was shaking and banging, I didnt even open my eyes...lol
Why, on the ONE night I get an early night, I miss it?

Slept like a log in Essex. In a non-twisted way I would of liked to experience the quake.

I thought it was just the heavy wind making my wall vibrate as I had left my window slightly open, my mum came in saying everything was shaking, I claimed it was the wind and went straight back to sleep.

The quake woke me up, rattling all the roof tiles and the crockery in the kitchen.
Then the bloody car alarms from the two car dealerships over my garden fence kept me awake until the batteries went flat

I felt it, my bed was shaking backwards and forwards. But didn't think anything about it till the morning.
I was only semi concious and remember thinking if I opened my bedroom door would I find a vehicle parked in the house. We live at the bottom of quite a steep hill with a bend in front of us.
Went to loo then went back to sleep. Just put it down to being a very vivid dream, I have them a lot.
It was only my sister asking me this morning whether I'd felt anything and I thought ah so that's what it was.
Andrea
Here in Spalding it woke me up me up. The other half slept through it.
My mum in Holbeach was awake and watched the walls and ceiling move around.
So no one admits to have been having sex at the time and thinking the earth had moved?? :D

Woke a few minutes before and the house shook greatly, wife woke to last remnants and most of the kids slept through it.
I was still up - half dozing in front of photoshop when I thought it was a group of kids kicking cans down the street - then the earth moved for me for the first time in years. The only problem being that I asked my wife if it woke her - she slept through - and had to admit how late it was before I came to bed! In north Norfolk my son's Irish Setter decided that the safest place was in bed with them.
Yep... shook here, I figured I was dreaming til work phoned me asking if I felt the quake :D
We're still one cat missing at the moment though

Felt it here in Stoke on Trent. Woke me up with the new wardrobe rattling around. Thought it was going to fall apart then thought oh that'll be an earthquake then. Slept through a bigger one in Canada in 2000 which was disappointing as it shook bits all over the floor in a hotel, nothing seems to have fallen off up here though which is good.

I missed it too, bummer, sounds like fun....This thread has made up for it mind, Its like getting exclusive sound bites from across the country.
I vote Susane's the most surreal real one. :D Sounds great.
Hope you find your cat Mattyh.
Surreal! scared the hell out of me.
I'd gone to bed at about 12.30, my man was still up watching some documentary downstairs, I must have just got off to sleep when our massive, heavy superkingsize bed started shaking like a rollercoaster car. There was also this rumbling noise too.
I've read reports that people say it lasted about 10 seconds, well maybe it did at a distance from the epicentre but here it lasted as long as it took for me to wake up, wonder what was going on, freak out because I thought there'd been a disaster like Flixborough*, get out of bed, weave across the floor because it was shifting under my feet, reach the landing, scream for my partner, us both realise it was an earth tremor, then for me to say "the floor's still moving!"
A bit longer than 10 seconds methinks!
* Flixborough is just short distance from us, I remember Nypro blowing up...the rumble...the shaking...the rattling crockery and ornaments. The earth tremor was definitely more violent.
