I often find when I take pictures of folks with glasses on that the flash (even though it is diffused with a gary fong) can be seen in the persons glasses.

Any tips or tricks for getting this right in the camera?

Instead of having the main light facing a person wearing glasses you should turn them so they are lit by the fill rather than the main. Stops all the nasty reflections.

Ive also read that to have the glasses slightly tilted downward helps.
I dont mean the actual specs slipped to the end of the nose as such, but if the wearer can tilt the top of the glasses forward slightly, so that the arms of frames lift up just a little on the ear, it angles the glass downward & stops it from taking the glare full on.

Scott Kelby's Photoshop book suggests taking two pictures ... one with the glasses, the other without (obviously being careful to not move between the two), and then just using Photoshop to remove the glare :)

I just don't believe that anyone could suggest such a complicated 'solution' to such a simple problem...
Angle of reflectance = angle of incidence, therefore if the head is tilted in ANY direction that reflects the light away from the camera, job done.
