View Full Version : BBC - Glasgow
Hey it's been a nice evening so I finally got out to take my first picture!
Couple of points to note:
It was late and I was alone
It was along the riverside in Glasgow
My skin isn't knife-proof and there were a lot of dodgy Neds (Chav equiv.) nearby
I may have soiled myself
I think it's a pretty poor attempt but have to start somewhere.
Right, enough of my excuses. All C&C welcome, as harsh as you like as I'll never improve otherwise! :D
Two nicotine patches on so rip it to shreds!

The only thing i would change would be to tilt the shot around 1 degree counter clockwise, so that the corner of the BBC building closest to you was vertical.
As it is, it look a little tilted to me.
go earlier in the day - fewer neds - and more light in the sky - which would help the pic!

I was thinking the same.
Apart from that it's great! Love the reflection of all the lights =]

ooo I like that :) Really like the star bursts and their reflections, and the angle and well...just about pretty much like everything about it :)
My only niggle is the kinked bit of railing in the right corner, think I would have been tempted to stand there so that the railing leading away was straight, but apart from that, great shot!
I see what you mean but I think it's either the shape of the building or perspective because the tower in the centre with red lights is perfectly verticial. Could be a tricky one to get around - perhaps a distort instead of rotate?
Glad you liked it! Spotted it out of the corner of my eye whilst driving hehe. Can't really do daytime photography at the moment due to work and weekends have been raining.

I did try but my pesky cropped sensor wouldn't allow everything to fit in despite the 20mm prime I was using :(

I know what you mean about the neds. :) took a few at the suspension bridge and got a few crafty looks! But I survived.
Best to have company when you shoot at night (no matter where you are).
Nice and sharp but a little earlier toi get the fading light would made it a belter.
join a glasgow flickr group meetups. loads go out taking photos at night lol
took shots a wee while ago from just up the road from this shots ( of the wonky bridge) so i know the ned problem! lol
its a great shot for a first attempt. perspective is off a bit but easy to fix, the railing at the front is my biggest issue, were u under one of the few street lights along there? it really is majorly distracting...... i would be tempted to go for a letterbox crop and make use of hte clone tool if you cant reposition to lose it.
great work *** well done..........

Really lovely shot... thats the sort of stuff I want to do.
Nice picture m8.
Cant see anything wrong with it at all.
As for the NEDS !! IMO...They are without a shadow of a doubt the best sport ever invented.
Some lovely night shots plus you get to throw a few neds in the Clyde..My idea of a good night out.
Thats a pretty good shot. I quite like the shape of the section of handrail that you kept in the frame.
Also if you want to go out in Glasgow some time with the camera give me a shout because I'm quite keen on taking some night shots in and around the city and as OldFart said join the Glasgow Flickr Meetup group (http://www.flickr.com/groups/glasgowmeetups/).
Cheers all, glad you liked the pic.
I just found this! http://www.glasgowarchitecture.co.uk/jpgs/bbc_extnite.jpg so someone has taken a shot further up and in this one http://edsphotoblog.com/wp-content/photos/800px/view_from_glasgow_tower.jpg you can see where I would have been standing! hehe (almost dead centre of photo below that blue crane thing)
Will check out that group!

very nice capture! i dont like th railing at bottom right of picture, if you can clone/crop it out. I would also like to have seen a bit more exposure so bring out the science centre. looking at it again i think the horizon is just a tad too central, a bit less FG would have done the trick.
I do like the reflections of the beeb building and it looks relatively noise free!
i have photographed down there many times, very photogenic place.

brilliant shot like it just as it is
