Ideas for a suitable flash meter for getting me started with studio work please. Ideally I'm looking for the best balance between price and ease of use / reliability.

Is this something that could be bought second hand or has there been significant progress in recent years.

Thanks for your input

L-358 is a very good one £178 or L-308s around £115 I think cant remember off the top of my head. Have a look at those.

Basically, all flash meters work in the same way and do the same job.

The best (Minolta flashmeter V) has loads of features that you may never want to use and excellent build quality

The Sekonic L-358 has loads of features

But even the cheapest will give very similar readings. As for new or s/h, I've never bought a new one.

Sekonic L358 or 308S - excellent prices from reputable HK vendors on Ebay etc.,

There is a comparative review of a few flashmeters on the www.shootsmarter.com website. You will probably need to be logged in to see it. Signup is free.

Thanks for everyone's replies - it looks like as long as I stick to a known brand I won't go far wrong

I'd go 2nd hand for a meter - you can make big savings. Ffordes usually have a selection of used ones in stock.

Have a look at Digital Rev (HK E-Bay) I bought a Sekonic L308s from them, about £80 delivered. Easy to use and a saving of about £40 UK price.

Whats the difference between the 758-D and the 758-DR ??

The 758-DR comes with the fitted radio module for triggering flashguns, whereas it's an option with the 758-D.
