View Full Version : New Brighton Lighthouse
Know this has been done loads of times before but as I don't do landscapes (at all!) I was actually quite happy with this arty shot. I nearly ruined my nifty fifty in the sandstorm that was battering me whilst I was going for this shot - had to change to the 70-200 as it was sealed - you're a brave lot you landscape togs
C&C welcome & appreciated as usual

Pretty cool. Leaning slightly left I think.
 :bang:
Cheers for the feedback Brash, I'll go check out the rulers

Great shot :) but.. i'm a little unsure on the processing, it looks like the lighthouse is embossed a bit. Unless thats the effect you were after ;)
very nice indeed Mike, I like it as is
What is the processing

Very nice! I like the processing and it is a cracking shot :) Seen a few of that lighthouse in the past few days and I think has to be the best so far!
Very nice Mike, great shot and processing.

Cheers for the feedback  It does look like that doesn't it but there really wasn't that much processing

Cheers mate, I just converted to B&W, added levels/curves adjustment, added a sepia hue/saturation adjustment & gave it a bit of a sharpen - the image was pretty close to this anyway after capture NX was done with the RAW adjustments

Apart from being a little noisy i have no complaints about this Mike - cracking shot!
Ordered your ND filters yet? ;)
 Cheers Gary, I actually own (rather guiltily) a 10 stop ND grad that never ever gets used
Thats really nice! Very dramatic :)

like the composition and the waves are excellent, really dramatic shot - to be honest though the sepia is a bit too much for me too

I like the processing on this one, it just adds to the drama.

It's a great shot. I'm not sure about the processing. Too much of a colour/sepia tone for my tastes.
I like it Mike..its moody and captures the weather just as it was on that day...the processing is spot on.
I agree. Captures the force and power of nature.

 I think this shot is tremendous! It gave me the chills as it shows the brute and powerful force of nature.
Cheers to everyone that's taken the time to comment, very much appreciated
It's great to get such honest feedback from everyone & definitely a useful learning curve (*rummage, rummage, tries to dig out ND grad filter & remote release*)

Very dramatic Mike, I like this one a lot
Wow, that's fab!!!!
Did you take that this week? I was there the day earlier, but the waves were pants...sadly i couldn't go the day of the high winds...gutted!!!
I nearly got sandblasted too, but if i'd have managed to capture a shot half as good as this, it would've been worth it for sure!
Thats pretty powerful Mike
In all senses of the word
Lovely shot. The water looks awsome. Seems to be a bit of uneveness in the sky, looks like it's been cloned or dodge/burned or something? Other than that, it's a cracker!

Thanks for that BiNg, It was pretty horrific conditions for photos imo, my tripod (which weighs a tonne!!) was shaking all over the place so I had to resort to handholding for my shots :(
Thanks for the feedback

I totally agree about the sky - there seems to be a vertical line that is slightly darker running down the side too but it's not something I've added in  I didn't add any dodging & burning but I did alter some colours & that may be the reason for it.
Cheers for the feedback
Mike - 2 words - Simply Spectacular!
I think it's a great shot :) but don't like the processing :( the sky in particular looks overdone.

Utterly. Stunning.
Quite apart from too much processing, I think the relative extreme you hzve gone to with this capture has really enhanced it. I'd have that on my wall!
