I'm taking a look through my shots and trying to assess where i am at.

I'd really appreciate some feedback on the following pictures. I'm not under illusions that they are magnificent, but I think they are okay. Would like to know how they could be better though....

This was taken in llandudno with a p&s, i'm more concerned with the composition of this as I know it could be sharper with my new camera.

This was taken in New Lanark and I quite like how it turned out. What could i do to capture a better shot?

This was taken in Rhyl, I actually want to have this framed for my new house because I spent every childhood holiday here and this picture evokes memories. Could it be improved with editing? Advice would be really greatfully recieved.

I know I'm asking quite a bit, lol. I'm a beginner and just trying to use my existing pictures as a learning curve. I really respect what you guys have to say.

Thanks

not bad at all but no2's highlights are blown, if you use nd or nd grad filters will help to stop
this but you will need to use a tripod as the shutter speeds will be slow.

Make it 3 from 76 ;)

Firstly the shots are a bit small to really tell but here goes. number one compositionally looks fine, you have used the rule of thids well and the stone in front leading to the 'thing' at the back draw your eye in to the picture.

Second, that's a very difficult scene to capture well, you have extremes of light and dark which make exposure hard. I'd have panned down a bit to get more of the water and right a bit to lose the tree trunk? on the left.

Three is going to look good to you no matter what :)

Try converting the beach shot to B&W and adding some contrast. It would work better for me that way, but I prefer landscape in B&W anyway.

#1...not sure about it.
#2 ..I agree with what has already been said.

I'd say invest in a polarising filter? That's help with those blues.

1 - The water and sky are nice, the grass is a bit barren. That'll be the harshness of the sun I reckon, did you take shots at different times of the day? The composition is nice.

2 - I agree, lose the tree trunk on the LHS.

3- Bowler's already warmed it for you, which is all that could be done IMO. It doesn't do anything for me as a photo, but with that one it's the memory that's important :)

It's a good start though, it looks like you've got a reasonable eye, you know what you want to capture, you just need practise in getting there :)

With #1, you've chopped in half one of the stones at the far left of the pic. You could crop a little tighter on the left to get around this, and this would also then limit the amount of the tree on the top left, which could help with the framing. I would then crop the sky a little, too, to raise in the frame the middle stone feature.

I quite like #2 - you just need to watch the blowing of highlights which is tricky with such a wide light-dark range.

#3 does nothing for me compositionally, sorry. But it means a lot to you, and so the simple warming that sbowler did is a nice improvement, I guess.
