View Full Version : How do I connect my 430ex to my Skyport?

I recently bought a Canon 430ex and the Skyport Radio triggers.

Craikeybaby told me I'll need a hot shoe adaptor, which makes sense considering the anatomy of the 430ex.

I just had a brainwave though.

Will any old hotshoe adaptor work? Or would it need to be canon specific?

Will this (http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/products/hama-hot-shoe-adaptor--6951/1635/) work?

cheeryrig is probably right, but withouth knowingwhat connections you have on your flash it's hard to say. Not all flashes have PC sockets meaning you have to buy another adaptor which fits on the hotshoe which does have one. The cables that come with the skyports are probably geared more towards flash heads than flash guns.

Apparently the 430ex has a PC terminal:

On a spec sheet - PC terminal: Direct contacts

I ordered one of those cables just in case. I can always send it back!

For the 430ex I'm pretty sure that you will need a hotshoe adaptor...

Yep, need a hotshoe adaptor.
Cheers craikeybaby.

Will any old hotshoe PC sync adaptor work? Or would it need to be canon specific?

Here is a diagram of how I intend on using the Hama Hot Shoe Adaptor (http://www.firstcall-photographic.co.uk/products/hama-hot-shoe-adaptor--6951/1635/)

Love the picture! You don't need a Canon one as you'll be using the flash in manual so you won't need to transmit all the TTL stuff...

They are absolutely tiny!
That is the one thing that shocked me, too.
The manual is completely... useless, to be blunt.

Just got to wait for this adaptor to arrive and I'll be up and running in no time :)
