Anyone know anything about these people and the quality of their photographic gear - I'm looking at this ball head particularly.

Given the above you probably mean:

"given the construction of exceedingly goodness apparently, uncertainty abounds as to the proposition of deciding to gloriously purchase or run like buggery"

Have you looked in their shop Cedric ...

There seems to be two almost identical models to the one you Linky'd to ... the TB32A and the TB22A ... :suspect: ... the only difference appears to be the weight of them as the 32 = 610g and the 22 = 580g ... ... both can take 13kgs maximum weight and other details appear the same ... :D

There is also a 'professional' model called the TB12 ... this appears to be smaller but is significantly cheaper and also on offer at £45 squids ... ... can't find any windage or weightage details for this one though ... :shake:

HTH ... ;)

I'd go for the heavier/larger one myself Rog as I'm already committed to the Arca system with a gimbal head which uses that system - I'm just short of a compatible ball head and I do have some heavy lenses. otherwise I'm sure the lighter version would be OK.

You on a wee spending spree Cedric? :D

Honestly mate it looks plasticy and cheap to me, I rekon your 500mm would leave it in two bits!

Just cheer me up Ally. :D I'll certainly be putting it to the test although it isn't primarily for the 500mm. I just picked up a mint RB67 off a real gent who's nursed it.

I have been goin' a bit I'm but I'm spent up now, :(

Hmmm it looks almost exactly like my Kirk BH-1 which would hold the 600 with no issues whatsoever ?

Had a message from them to say it's been despatched and will be delivered by City Link tomorrow. So sometime next week I'd think. :D

Well the head was delivered about 30 minutes ago, so pretty prompt service.

I'm impressed! It's obviously a shameless copy of a Kirk BH-1 but a lot less dosh. It's heavy, and the whole thing smacks of quality materials used throughout. The controls are smooth and give every control you need over ball movement, from just the amount of resistance you want, to being locked completely solid. It has a very precise pano control too if that's what you're into, so it's really a very complete head for all purposes.

I've mounted the 500mm and the 40D on it and it holds the combo very rigidly at whatever crazy angle you want to put it at without having to over- tighten the control knob - just a gentle turn of the knob and it's locked solid.

Obviously, time will tell how well it stands up to continued use, but in all honesty I really don't foresee a problem - it's a well engineered quality bit of kit, and I have no hesitation in recommending it, so go ahead Ven and get one - the smaller version is even more of a bargain. ;)

It comes with one small Arca swiss type plate

ebay linky thingy (http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=230228473877&mpt=1207137726941&tGUID=a4ef44481180a0baecf651a6fff10344)

(To the smaller version)
