Had a day off today for the first time in ages and really wanted to have a practice at lighting and post production. I really couldn't think of what to do  but then, after a rummage in our silly hats box I had an idea.
A bit silly but a very educational exercise for me. All in all, there was much mirth and joy, as well as learning a little.:woot:

All the best

While I personally don't like the background or the foreground candles (to me they take too much attention away from the star of the shot :)), I think the pp is awesome as is the models costume and expression. Good one.

Hey thanks F-Stop, that means a lot, I've been trying to improve the PP side and that's basically what the above shot was for.
Your right about the background and foreground, the original is quite dark but when I converted the colour space from Adobe RGB to sRGB for the net, the brightness went ott revealing a lot of the unsightly area's I had masked with a vignette , I've changed it now but the conversion is still doing something dirty
By the way, love your stuff!
All the best.

I love the PP, it works really well with the expression.
The expression is so powerful and yet I feel its fighting for my attention against the hand & foot as they are so much brighter.
In particular I find the foot a distraction and as its not adding anything to the shot, I think Id have cropped just along the top edge of it ... loose it completely.
Losing the foot also dispenses with the white trim along the bottom of the blanket and so brings my eye straight to the face... jmo of course.

Oh & love the blanket ... an angry King Of Hearts

Bang on, it's a great piece of work.

The post production is really good but it's not what you see when you look at the shot. You just see the model, get drawn in by the great expression, the hand is really interesting and there is more still to take in after that. Just as it should be.

Love it!

Hey thanks Glo, I didn't realize that the blanket had hearts on it until I sat down to do the PP  The shot was just an exercise for me to experiment with portraiture and strobe lighting, I have a job over the weekend which involves taking portraits of kids in animal costumes for an ice skating event, I had a few ideas but really wanted to see how they would work practically first. When it comes to the weekends job I won't use a strobe as a foot-light as I agree with you completely with the hand and foot issue.

Thanks for the kind words. It means alot.

Cheers muchly! The model is me, I wish I had someone else to pose but I was on my jack jones, also things were made a little difficult without a motor drive cable for my triggers, I had to run around our coffee table and get into position while the timer on camera was ticking. I had just banged my shin on the tables corner before the shot which is kinda reflected in my expression.
I really want to get into shooting bands, people etc, this portrait malarky is very enjoyable. I have just recently landed some good work with a publisher for a fine art black & white print calendar of Helsinki City, it's such a big break for me, and thank the skies, I'm getting busier.
I've been living in Helsinki for just over a year and been struggling with money, hopefully, fingers crossed all will be coming up roses soon. Now I really want to push my photography to different levels, so lights , camera, action!

Thanks for the kind words and feedback, I really appreciate it.
All the best.

I know but I thought the credit was worth splitting into the separate rolls you played. ;)
