I was pottering around yesterday when something caught my eye out of the window.
There, toddling down the lawn was a Badger! :woot:
I was so chuffed as Ive never seen a live one before, just plenty of roadkill.
Anyway, I dusted off the camera & crept down the garden behind him, then watched as he crawled into the neighbours garden and began making himself at home ... what a racket he made about it too, lol!

While I know its not a great shot. It was taken between bushes & fence posts & the lurid green thing on the left is a hose pipe!
Im hoping there'll be more opportunities to get better shots, will there be much chance of getting day shots or was this a rarity?

That's a fantastic shot Glo well done I'm dead jealous too.

Just a note of caution - they're peaceful creatures but if they feel they're threatened or cornered they can be extremely aggressive and they have the claws to back it up! Keep taking the shots but don't get yourself into a position with no escape route.

 I think that's a brilliant shot as it is to be honest. All the 'soft focus' stuff round the edges adds to the shot I think. He looks so peaceful too :)

That is a really clever shot Glo and it works on so many levels ... it really brings out the shy and cautious in the creature you have captured ...

And to see it in a garden ... ... and during the day ...

These are definite creatures of the night and are very rarely seen during the day with most opportunities coming around dusk as they emerge from their sets ... :suspect: ... you were very fortunate but take note of Cedric's word of caution if you do have such a great opportunity again ... :D

Thanks for the feedback peeps ... I too think the surrounding debris works in an odd kind of way.

I shall indeed tread with caution, luckily where he has made his home there's fence between me & him... with just enough space to poke my lens through :D
However its all very dark & tight there, so Ill just have to hope that he decides to have a play on next door's lawn in the full blast of the security light... like they said he did the other night.

 ... are you saying they have a set in their garden ... :suspect:

That's amazing ... ... unless of course their garden is the size of a football pitch or three ... :D

They can be extremely destructive too ... if anything gets in the way of their search for food it's bye bye obstruction ... :naughty:

I can second that. I heard a noise one night and looked out of the window, and the badger and my cat had met head on. I'm afraid my cat came out the worst - it involved a very expensive operation at the vets.

I don't think that badgers normally attack cats, but they obviously met head on and the badger felt threatened.

Thats an awesome shot, the blurred clutter adds to their shy but inquisitive nature and really works.

They are also know to carry TB......:gag:

Hope Im not hijacking Glo's wonderful thread, but before we moved last week... I had regular badger visitors to my front garden for peanuts each night.

Two feet in front of the window they were so I had the outside lights on...

I made a video one night.... so if anyone cares to see it.. you can find it here (http://www.janicehobbs.com/badgers.wmv).
If you are getting bored.. fast forward to about 1/3rd of the way thru and it gets a bit more interesting!!
