Hello- as an active working professional photographer I designed and developed the Y Strap (http://www.ystrap.com)to be an all day carry solution. The Y Strap will comfortably carry cameras for a Leica to the largest Nikon and Canon cameras and yes the E3...I carry my M7 on it every day. The military spec tubular webbing I use will support 4000 lbf and is very comfortable to wear unlike many straps that use flat webbing. Each Y Strap is individually handmade by me at my studio in Vermont with a philosophy of simplicity of design and quality of materials. If it is not your cup of tea, no worries. I still hope you'll stop in a check out the articles I post on The Figital Revolution (http://www.figitalrevolution.com)and keep the dialogue going.

I think both of these look like a good idea and I can see my self using one when carrying two bodies at a wedding or equine event, I must admit the Blackfire version looks slightly better from my point of view but I can see the merits of Figital Revolution's design - paricularly for smaller camers.

Looks ideal for a samller camera as you say - something like the Oly E-420 & 25mm Pancake lens, or a Canon G9.

Both a good enough idea. Can't help thinking it's a bit pointless individually numbering them though

I was thinking, could it be made with a like leather belt instead of that??

Maybe than more photographers will use it in the mind that it won't fall as easy?

My phone broke a strap when it had a strap like that, i am only thinking of that

If climbers use that material it stands a chance that the camera will break before it does lol would certainly be more robust than leather.

I've been tempted by a blackfire myself.

The Y strap looks well thought out and robustly designed imo. I can definitely see the advantages, especially for people like my wife, who find a DSLR with a long lens very heavy round their neck after a while. The way the Y strap holds the camera low against your body would certainly help I reckon.

Tempted to try one out...

Having just watched the Y-strap videos I have to say, I'm surprised it costs so much. It's a bit of webbing, a plastic doobery ( forget the name now mind gone blank ) and a keyring loop

I'm tempted by this. i don't use a neck strap cos its heavy and i find the camera bounces on my boobs. i currently use a wrist strip from optech, the down side to this is you have to hold the camera all the time but your prevented from dropping over board, although if u do drop it your wrist really hurts:(

I only problem i can see with the Y strap is as it cuts across the chest it will look very unlady like and push against my boobs making it uncomfortable.:bang:

Do need an answer to my "strap" problem though if anyone wants to get designing.

Mind the price is in dollars. According to jeeves it comes in at £15.048, which isn't too bad imo, as long as the postage cost isn't excessive .

Dunno if that would be a real issue. My camera's in one of these messenger bag things (really need to find a decent backpack that doesn't cost a fortune) and I tend to carry it slung across my body like that cos the weight on one shoulder gets really uncomfortable. Why not try it with a handbag or something that's got a long strap on it and see how you find it?

the r-strap is $56 + $10 shipping.

Dunno what that works out to?

The RS-2 is the one I was thinking of, so would be interested to hear your views on it.

Just looks like something more to get tangled up in! The R Strap does look good though, not sure if I would pay the extra $12 for the RS2, all it seems to have extra is a little webbing purse.

I wonder if the straps would still work whilst wearing a bag or rucksack?

Otherwise totally useless for me

Some quick responses to questions:

1. The Y Strap is made out of Military Spec Tubular Webbing...which will hold 4000 lbf...it is what mountain climbers "bomb proof".

2. The tubular webbing is much stronger and more comfortable than flat webbing which most strap makers use because it is less expensive and easier to sew. I only buy the best tubular webbing which is used by search and rescue teams and the military. Sewing the tubular webbing an adventure as the "Y" end requires a stitch that goes through 8 layers of material...thats a strong stitch!

3. The Y Strap is perfect with a bag or a rucksack as the camera moves up the strap to your eye so the strap will not interfere with your bag or pack. (I carry mine with a small bag all the time!)

4. The Y Strap hangs very close to your body and distributes the weight in a very comfortable way.

5.The price for the Y Strap is in Dollars.

Hope this helps.

The Y strap would be fine for a point and shoot.

Can see any camera bigger and heavier than that cutting into your neck big time.

Figital Revoluti

The Y Strap was disigned for all size and weight cameras from Point and shoots to the heaviest Dslr. The 1" Military Spec Tubular webbing is very comfortable and durable...it is really overkill on small cameras. I shoot with a Leica M7 with the dual lens mount and a flash (over 4.5 lbs) with no problems. I have several users who shoot with the Nikon D2X or the Canon 1Ds Mark II and a large lens with no problems (thats a big camera)! Most users say that the Y Strap is the most comfortable carry soultion they have ever found. The reason it is so comfortable is that the weight is not on your neck like a neck strap but rather distributed over your should, back and chest...this increased surface are makes a heavy camera systems seem much lighter on the Y Strap. Also, the Military Spec Tubular webbing I use moves with your body and does not cut like flat webbing.
