A few weeks ago I got together with a graduate fashion designer and a model to do a fashion shoot for the mutual benefit of us all. We did it to help expand each others portfolios. Fashion photography is not something I have done before, but it was great fun if not very hard work. I used a borrowed backdrop which worked ok, but was a bit too shiny. for lighting I simply used 2 SB600 speedlights with brollies and a reflector. With hindsight I would have done some things differently and I can spot a few mistakes, but Im pleased with how most of them came out. Designer; Jane. Model; Harriet.

I took loads more, but these are some of the better ones.

Coo - they're rather good. I like the lighting effect you've achieved with them, esp 1 and 2. The others work less well (but that's not saying they're not good pics). Super sharp too. I think you've all benefited from that exercise. Having just started doing some studio work myself, I know its not easy. Well done.

Thanks you two. :) One thing I found really hard was getting the lighting right when using a black backdrop and black clothes. Throwing enough light onto the clothes to sperate them from the background would blow the skin. And one of the dresses was made out of a material that seemed to eat light far better than the backdrop.

I was wondering how you got to doing these when I saw them over at DA :D
The lighting is pretty good, although perhaps a little too strong in this one:

You could have been telling jokes or something, as the model looks a little bored, a little angry too in some shots

I don't think the designer could complain much. Or did she?

How far away was the model from the backdrop?
