Lovely color contrast and exposure. Just a couple of negatives on my behalf would be that the dof around the eyes (the focal point) is too shallow and centered.

Thanks for the comments. The image was taken at f6.3, which I thought would be small enough to get more DOF than it did. Is the shallow DOF due to it being a macro lens or down to the subject being so close to the lens (or both...). It's the first time I've used my macro lens where it's been sunny enough not to have it wide open to f2.8, so I'm still learning what it can and can't do. What sort of f value should I be looking at to get the eyes in focus, with a subject around 20cm away? I'm using a Tamron 90mm macro on a D80.

Is there any way of calculating the DOF an f-value will give you at a set distance/focal length, or is it just something you learn and get a feel for.

If it is calculable, I hope it's easy as otherwise the crab will die of old age as I remove my socks and use my toes to figure it out :)

Lovely shot. I like the shallow dof.
Was hoping to do some macro shots down the shore at low tide on sunday but the exhaust fell off the car yesterday! doh!
