I spent about an hour getting photos of HMS Mersey yesterday. The light was harsh and annoying so pretty much most of the images were rubbish. I tried to HDR some and failed because the light wasn’t very good. This was pretty much the last image I took and it worked. I wanted a WW2 war film feel to it. I wanted it to look as if had been photographed by Chambre-Hardman in the 40s.

Yes, but they're really not as good :( This was the only one that worked. I think its because the sun was in a really annoying position causing the clouds to look horrible. Its a shame. I might have a play but I'm happy enough with this as its what I set out to do.

I needed a bit of a break from daily foruming :) I'm really happy with this image as its been a while since I've done anything like it and wanted to take the risk of sharing it. I'm glad people like it.

I like it, especially the size of the ship in comparison to the buildings, makes it more imposing :)

Awesome shot Pete, Fantastic light on the building in the distance and the dock side. And the light behind the Union Flag is incredible.
Do you reckon it could stand the top left edge being pulled out slightly to correct the converging verticals........okay i want my cake and eat it.
Pure brilliance.

Oh I spend far too long in front of the box once the sun has gone down :) While its up though, moments to be missed so I try not to miss them. <3 Lomo too. Such a good little camera.

Pete,

Just been looking through your Flickr photo's from the Hillsborough Memorial Service last April and it's brought a lump to my throat. :'(

Will be paying my respects on Sunday before the Blackburn game as I cannot make the memorial on Tuesday due to work commitments.

Thanks,

Adam.

The backlit flag and skyscape is fantastic but it is an awful shame the very bottom of the boat is clipped off.

great work petemc

lovely dark sky and a brilliant angle on the boat. However, i feel your image is a bit too dark. I like the high contrast but a bit more detail in the shadows would help the image imho.

still a great capture and a brilliant eye to see this image

I don't feel it needs to be. You know its a ship and on my display theres enough detail to see it is separate to the terminal.

Slightly off topic there, but thanks. I had forgotten to put it in my dairy and I'll be there on Tuesday.

The backlit flag and skyscape is fantastic but it is an awful shame the very bottom of the boat is clipped off.

Nothing I could do there. The other boat I was on was too close. This was shot at 10mm, ish. I had to wait for the flag on the boat I was on to blow out the frame while waiting for the wind to nicely position the flag in the frame.

great work petemc
